Seriously?

First off, I'm assuming you mean V6, not V8 as you have in your thread title.

Secondly, the 4.3 V6 is basically the same design as the SBC V8, with 2 less cylinders. Bellhousing is the same, and front accesories and everythng are the same.

Third, there are several threads RIGHT UNDER YOUR NOSE in this very forum with 4.3 swaps. SEARCH! Hell, just look right below this thread.

......a grand for a 4.3???? I can buy a Vortec 4.3 for $250

You have A LOT of research before you go any further. Not that you will though, your just like the other 500 people on here that ask the same questions. Just a pipe dream.

no, gm made a 4.3 V8, they were optional in the caprices, the one i found is came from a 95 chevy caprice... and i meant $350 for the motor, $500 for the adapter, and whatever else i may need... and i know there are PLENTY of 4.3 v6 swap threads on here ha ha i think i've read at least half of them

OH. I've never heard of the 4.3 V8. My bad.

Wikipedia says its externally identical to the 5.7L LT1

In that case, the LT1 shares the same bellhousing as the older SBC engines. So the adapters should work.

I guess it cant hurt to get the 4.3, as it puts out decent power. If you dont like it, you can always swap it for another SBC engine without reworking the bellhousing adapter.

Doesn't sound like a worthwhile swap. For a couple hundred more, you could get a real 5.7L LT1. And that's a drop in the bucket compared to what the whole project will cost. The disadvantages are the same with both, but you get more power and aluminum heads on the 5.7L.

That '95 Caprice was probably a taxi cab. How many miles do you think are on the engine?

I had a 4.3 V8 in my Dad's old (82) parrisienne. Almost the same as the 350, just less displacement. I was considering finding one for a swap, but they are not very popular anymore.

I am not sure about what was offered in the newer versions of this engine, but I had swapped an RV cam, 4 barrel carb and better exhaust manifolds to make it more fuel efficient and it ran great for over 400 K that we had it...

Tight would be an understatement

How much did the swap cost? I'm not counting. I don't want to know.

I got my donor engine from a 76 blazer. Bought it for $250. Kept the motor. Sold everything else, got about $400 from parting it out. So I made $150 on the deal. And I used a bunch of scrap steel I had at home and at work to build other various components like core support braces and t-case crossmember.

Adapter and clutch $800.
Radiator $100.
Electric fan, wiring, relays, switches $100
Motor mounts $75.
Gasket kit and tune up for the motor about $100.
Radiator plumbing maybe $30.
Fuel lines $15.
Power steering parts $40.
Drive shaft work $150.
Fluids $50.
Welding and grinding consumables $50
Had to buy hoist and engine stand $175
Homemade exhaust $120
and a bunch more nickel and dime stuff I'm forgetting

total? $1800. Thats a BALLPARK figure. Tons of stuff I'm leaving out. Not to mention the time put into this.
