Which trans to put behind an OM617?
Put a want ad up on CL for a W56 tranny as I've seen here and elsewhere that they are pretty durable. Got a response from a guy who parts out toys and has a W56/tcase for $150
He says he also has a "5 speed from behind a V6" and that its a lot more durable transmission. He wants $250 for the V6 trans/tcase.
Now obviously I'd save $100 if I go with the W56 but that savings would be negated if I end up swapping the trans out a second time because it blows up. What I want to know, is there any good reason I haven't seen people putting the V6 trans behind a diesel? Is the V6 trans actually beefier than the W56 or is the seller just speculating?
Is the W56 the beefiest manual tranny that toyota put behind the 22RE?

stay away from the earlier L and G series. The R seriese found behind the v-6 is the burliest of the bunch but pound for pound id go with the w56. Its a little more compact and plenty tough for the om617 as long as you dont do as the fins do...400hp.
