OM617 swap noise and vibration suppression
I haven't seen this mentioned much and maybe its just not an issue for most, but I find the OM617 to be a little loud in the cabin. The slight vibration doesn't really bother me, but I would be interested in different ways to bring the noise level down, especially at sustained highway speeds/rpms.
I am using the TDSwaps kit and very old toyota motor mounts. Maybe fresh mounts would help, but I doubt by much. Maybe a softer replacement could be made? Fitment is pretty tight though, I'm not sure I could handle too much more motor movement, but nothing hits or rubs right now.
I could line the floor and interior firewall with Dynamat, Fatmat, etc. I have done this in a previous car and didn't notice a real significant difference.
I am using a flomaster 40 muffler, maybe I could add another, or something different? I'm not sure how much this would help though, as the noise seems to be coming from the engine compartment, not the end of the exhaust.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Maybe I'm just a wus.

Im running a stright pipe all the way bk, and i still can't hear much exhust noise. the engine itself is kinda loud, mabe some of the mats from ur doner cars engine bay might quiet it up inside. Friends say that thay can't hear my truck till I'm right up on them. Mercedes uses a double firewall on there cars mabe tjats why thay seem so quiet inside.

Yeah, they also have fluid filled motor mounts and small shock absorbers next to them to soak up everything. They also have a ton of room in the engine bay to let that thing shake rattle and roll!
I guess I'll start with the firewall insulation.

Run dynamat or similar sound deadener. Try your local stereo store, they sell it.

Could always fab in new engine mount brackets so u could use the factory MB motor mounts and shocks.the only problem i can possibility see is if thay allow to much front to back movement and make contact with ur radator. Some of the noise might b cumming from the shifter boot also. might try putting a towl or a blanket around the boot when ur on the hwy to isolate where its cumming from.
