I am currently in the middle of doing a 4bt swap in my 1987 4runner and im stuck on trying to find a tranny to use. It came with a t19 2wd but the length from the bellhousing to the shifter is to short so it would put the shifter in my dash. I thought about using the stock tranny and finding a adaptor but i cant find one.. I would like to stick with a manual tranny if possible. Any suggestions on what tranny to use would be greatly appreciated.

 

The nv4500 is supposed to be the gold standard to couple with the 4bt.

 

Just noticed your 4runner came with 2wd trans. Another option would be the sm465 in either a 2wd application or run a divorced np205 transfer case in a 4x4 application. The sm465 is extremely strong & super easy to find
