Looking to get a hood scoop put in for a 3.4 swap.

- Anyone know what scoop works best & where to get it?
- What are the measurements for cutting the hole into the stock '90 hood. (going from 3.0 - 3.4, no body lift, no S/C). Want to get the scoop in before I start the swap. Does someone have a pattern mabey?

 

i just put spacers at the hinges... it doesnt look bad at all.

all said it cost me 8 bucks for the spacers and the longer bolts.

 

LOL, I'd skip the spacers idea and go with a hood scoop. I don't think there are any "measurements" out there, but maybe someone does. Any reason you have to do the scoop first? Besides the cool factor, I'd just wait till you do the swap. Otherwise, your stuck looking at pictures and guessing.

 

the 3.4 is taller than the 3.0..

 

Yes, I know. But he was asking where the 3.4 hit BEFORE he does his swap. I'd assume he wants to do this for looks/practical reasons and if that is the case a hood scoop would look a lot better than what you did. So, what's your point?

 

sorry miss read what you asked... i thought you were asking why he was putting on the hoodscoop at all. i agree, if you're going to cut and scoop it, do it after the swap.

 

1"-2" body lift will clearance the 3.4 as well no need to cut the hood that way or like I am looking at a Chevy Cowl full length scoop 1 1/2"-2" tall will give the to cool factor and the clearance for the 3.4 plenum

 

correction you need atleast 1.5" to properly clear the hood.

 

My hood clears with only a 1" bl, and that includes using new motor isolators.

 

I have a hood scoop on mine. When I did the swap it barely rubbed. Still in the process of bondoing mine.

 

X2, plus I have a SC. I did remove the insulation and cut some of the back bracing out though.



It makes a difference what year truck you have too.

 

I did the spacer hood mod, same as above. Used some 3/8 nuts and longer bolts. had everything laying around. No cutting, no painting, no bl. And it helps to pull air out of the engine bay.

 

I used three 1/4 washers stacked on each side of the hood. A total of 12. So 3 washers stacked on each bolt. Also used longer bolts.





I have not even cut the hood bracing out, or do I have a body lift.
Stock 92

 

Clean job on that swap.
