used motor 3.4 compression ??

i am looking at buying a 3.4 from a local yard to preform the swap. i was told that the motor was compression tested and the results were 150- 180. the donor is a 98 4runner 4x4 AT with 136,000 miles. if i can get it complete for $900 would that be a good buy?

I bought mine out of a 99 tacoma.

Has 130,000 miles on it out of an auto. Pulled the motor myself.
Got mine for $800..

Those are good number.

Id be more concerned about them all having the SAME compression... I was told the cylinders could be within 10% off but no more..

An answer like "the compression is between 150 and 180" would lead me to believe the guy doesn't actually know what the compression is or can't remember. There is a big difference between 150 and 180. Especially if there is that much difference on the same motor. Check it yourself to be sure.

neoworm0 is correct. Double check the compression yourself and look for variation. The compression should all be pretty close to each other. Maybe 10-15 psi difference between the highest and lowest, and they should all be above 150 or so.

This is straight out of AllData.. a very cool diagnostic program we use. Ideal cylinder pressure is above 174 psi minimum should not fall below 145 psi and the difference between top and bottom readings should be less than 15 psi. I hope this helps.

thanks for the advice so far guys. i bought the motor and will have the mechanic at my work "leak" test it tomarrow. based on the compression results that were done today by my guy, so far it sounds like it will be the ONE.
