I have been seriously thinking about getting one of the turn key conversions from toyonlyswaps to replace the 3.0 in my '94 4Runner with a newer 3.4L. Everything I've seen about the company and their products has been favorable and they've been helpful and good about returning emails, etc.

One thing they mention is that there is occassionally some fitment issues between some engines. I can either cut a hole in my hood, cut the center support section out to clear or go with a body lift.

Having never done a body lift, I'm curious about which kit to get. Certainly cutting the hood would be simpler but the truck would look better with a mild lift anyway. And once the new engine's in I'll be looking for an OME setup.

You dont exactly have to do a body lift though. You can also get away with doing a 1" ( some people have ) and you can also put spacers in your hood latches and itll work. but its up to you.

 

Hood scoop looks In my opinion

 

Does putting spacers in the hood latches cause the hood to stick up above the fenders? Any issues with the hood latch needing adjustment or modification?

Plan B is to run with no hood so everyone can see how cool the Gen II is with a 5VZ in there!

 

yeah it causes the back end of it to stick up above the fenders. and no not that i know of.

 

I've installed a 2" PA body lift in the past and that's what I plan on doing to my 4Runner currently undergoing a 3.4 swap. They're not hard to install and let's face it, unless you're capable of doing awesome body work, non-factory hood scoops look LAME!

 

don't do a body lift! or a scoop! I have a 92 sr5 pickup with the 3.4 and all I have is 4 skateboard bearings as spacers on each of the hinge bolts. They actually work perfectly. I think it just might clear without them too.. But the lift on the back of hood is so slight it is just fine as is. .25 of an inch is barely noticeable, and you get extra ventilation

 

shoot i got sidetracked.. was going to say their crossover pipe works great, and definitely good idea to let them do the harness too!!

yeah i started with 3 or 4 on each bolt at first, then adjusted throttle cable lower, better situated airbox, maybe something else... and ended up with 1 on each. started as a temporary fix but it seems like the best and cleanest option now.

I've heard and delt with a little bit of fitment issues with their crossover.

 

should do alteast a one inch lift. heard it will help with the install and the exhaust pipes.

 

the 5vz fits better than the 3vz did, plenty of room to put the crossover on and take it off without a body lift.. If you can get away with spacers, go for it! If you plan to add the supercharger you will need at least the 2" lift... although I havnt measured yet.

 

why keep the factory cross over? its a poor design and the new 4.0 v6 doesnt do a cross over behind the engine anymore. heck, i dont even have the factory crossover anymore. so much heat behind the heads and the firewall.

 

Maybe we should all go buy a brand new truck for $30k.

Because nobody makes headers that fit the 3.4L in the 2nd gens. The flipped crossover is the easiest solution.

 

why not get custom set made. after all the work, the header design is just not that great. dont need a 30k truck. just need that 30k truck engine lol

 

here is what i did to avoid hood scoop or body lift. 1" brass spacer with longer bolts..

 

Something for toyonlyswaps to invest in... Headers that clear the fuel & brake lines, slave cylinder, and firewall! I would purchase them! I want to get the most out of this SC for sure!
