T100 auto with 97 4runner auto shifter problem

Well after some frustrating wiring issues I finally got my 4 runner to start today and it runs freaking awesome. Amazing what one wire not hooked up will do. Lol. Only issue now is the transmission linkage doesn't seem to be correct. I'm using a 97 4runner auto shifter but when I shift it goes from Park to reverse on the shifter but the trans shifts from park to 2nd in that distance. I tried readjusting the linkage but there is no way to change this as the trans has a shorter pattern than the shifter itself. Is there another piece of linkage I am missing? Or would a longer or shorter arm on the trans cure this?

I would imagine that a a340f auto shifter is like any other. You should be able to adjust it satisfactorily. I never had an issue once I got it set the first time.

The t100 shifter is almost an inch shorter than the 4runner/ Tacoma shifters on the transmission because of the column shifter linkage. I was having a blonde moment last night when I asked that and then realized I have a 97 4runner in my driveway to look at. After looking at it in the light this morning I had my answer. What I did to correct the issue was switch the shift lever from the old 340h auto that came out of the 4runner onto the 340f. Although it is also a bit shorter ( approximately 1/2") I was able to adjust the linkage to have a proper shift pattern.

I'm curious. Can you post a picture of the older shifter you adapted? Never seen it before and might be useful.

I can take a pic of it but I'm thinking you may be thinking I used the stock 340h shifter inside the truck. I actually only used the piece that bolts directly to the transmission because it was longer than the t100 lever that was there. Inside the truck I am using a 97 4runner auto shifter. I had to take the stock t100 transfer case shifter apart and replaced the shift part of the lever with an 84 forward shift lever. It was taller to accommodate the 1" body lift and was in the perfect angle to clear the transmission shifter when it was in 4 low.
