it always varies depending. Best is to get a complete parts rig to take all from and you can use alot of the stock stuff. I think sky or offroadsolutions sell the drill guide and both sell the pan

I Have a totaled 2000 Tacoma with a 2nd gen s/c and the URD 7th injector so I have the full donor but if I remember correctly someone was saying something about the oil sender and a couple other things from the 3.0 so those are the things that I am asking about.

Also while I am thinking about it what are 6-8 wires that I need to spice into the 3.4 ecu from my 3.0 wiring harness plus the tack mod.

Theres the better question

Great you have a full donor. Use the 3.0 sending unit off your runner and buy skys 2wd t100 oil pan kit. Well worth the $200 some Offroad solutions sells the drill guide if you need it but its gonna $$$ya.

As for the wiring good luck as it is simple yet it sounds to me your gonna need to purchase techinfo.toyota.com Well wotht the day subcrition to get all the data you need wiring and engine wise for just $10 day and other deals for different leghts of time. Get all the schematics wiring wise for both exact year, make, model or you cant do it! Every thing is just a hair different than the other trust me.

Most the wires deal with lights, power to misc stuff comp related, and ignition stuff. read the schematics and you can figure it out. Be sure to take your time and reasearch and by research I mean "search" youll find the info covering this and probably the remander of you ?'s concerning this swap and some other cool swaps.

Good luck on the project

That is a great write up, but not all the info is 100% accurate.

Some info can be updated like the clutch info. You do not have to run the 3.4 clutch. You can use the 3.0 flywheel, clutch, preasure plate, release bearing, ect.

I think Andy's site is one of the best I have seen, but then again I have not read that many. I give him 2 thumbs up for the job he did. My input is NOT based on what I have read here or anywhere else on the internet.

I did this swap a few years ago and my memory is fuzzy.... I am about to re-do it since the red 4runner was rear ended a few weeks back.

Thanks,
CAZ

Without Andy's site and help, I would NEVER have gotten my swap done. His write-up was extremely valuable...

Andy Zooks page is great and straight forward but I feel it was a little vague and lacking in the photo department. I'm visual and thats just how I fully understand. But thats why I also read every thread on here (ToyTech) and Pirate, ORS,and so on. Just my .02 Thanks guys

Now let's see if we can't make this thread productive again. I think there is a LOT of personal knowledge that can be shared.

I for one would like to learn, so please do share.

What would you like pictures of? I hope to have the 3.4 into the new truck sometime in the next week or two. I got the 3.0 pulled this weekend and am ready to go! I can snap some new pictures and update the page this time around.

The "new" 4runner

The damage on the red one

Seeing as its very exact in that it has been a base for many 3.4 builds, maybe more photos in (for example) I re routed the fuel lines, and then a picture to show how they should go. To make it more of a manual. Steps in the correct order of how to build it. Yes its been done, but not as step by step as your build up was. My opinion though, in which everyone has, and defers from person to person. Thats why I'm doing a build up of mine so that folks can have as much info at there fingure tips as they want. Which by the way thanks to your build up I'm using you parts list as a shopping list of parts to get.
Look forward to the new build up of the 4runner. What are you doing with the old one? Parting it out? Making it a strictly trail rig?

Let me know if the parts list is still valid. I will take some more pictures this time around - or better pictures anyhow...

I got a nice fat check from the insurance company for the old 4runner and bought it back for $400. I bought the new truck for next to nothing with a blown 3.0. The good parts from the old one will go on the new one and the rest will get parted or scrapped.

I am putting the extra cash back into my FJ40. Lots of changes coming soon!

The problem with demading too much detailed information is that not all swaps are going to be exactly the same. For example, Andy mentions having to run a wire down from the relay in his fuse block under the hood to the starter. I didn't have to, because my relay isn't there, it's under the dash. So, I had to run one from the dash harness out.

And Andy, I still appreciate all your help.

Thanks Rob!

True, no tow swaps are the same, but the general idea remains the same. I knew from the time that I wrote that article that my pictures were lacking, but once it was all together I was not about to tear anything back down for pictures ;-)
