I actually followed kg206's wiring conversion because the years were the same. I dont see why i wouldnt have done that but ill triple check and see what the other wiring diagrams show.

 

Just curious and please dont take offense, but can you effectively read an EWD?

You can not simply follow another swap harness diagram even if they are the same years. You must match function for function, regardless of color and location. I guess I am out of suggestions at this point. Sorry.

 

Hard wire your fuel pump to run with the key on. Then try starting it. If it kicks on then you know its your wiring to the MAF.
You say it coughs with starting fluid. Means you're not getting fuel.

 

No offence taken but i can read one and understand it. I just used his setup as a guideline, i did my own research as well. However you are correct in that STA wire from the ecu not being done, as i didnt k ow about it. As i kept my original wires from the starter and tranny i did not read up on how to wire it in, poor judgement on my part. So tomorrow i will be doing that as i believe that is where my problem lies.

Vital i have fuel and i checked by loosening the fuel line on the motor and fuel came did come out plus we can hear the pump kick in. Someone thought maybe one of my sensors was why it wasnt running then and i wanted to ask the experts before i start replacing everything.

 

Hopefully it's the STA wire. I read a lot of threads with the start and die and it's usually MAF related.

I would triple check the wires into the plug and make sure they are not loose or corroded. May as well check the plug for the ignitor as well. Another common issue.

I have a couple of loose wires inside the plastic connector housing that plugs into the ECU. If I get "lucky" after unplugging and reconnecting the ECU (or sometimes even moving the ECU around) the engine will fire, rev up, and die almost instantly; wiggle one of the MAF wires at the ECU, try it again and it'll fire right up and run like there isn't a problem in the world.

Although if your STA pin is disconnected, I'd look at that first.

 

Here is part of an email that I have from Mike at offroadsolutions. I asked him if I could delete the starter wire trigger from his plug n play wire harness. This is what he had to say:

"The starter wire in our harness is a part of the entire start circuit. This circuit also supplies a start signal to the ECU. If you remove our wire from your system it will cause starting problems......"


So what did I do? I used it and got rid of my start "push button" that I had hiding so no one could try and drive her off. He did give an example of leaving my starter push button but I figured.... forget it! LOL. Hope this helps, good luck.

I'm running an inline fuel pump with a toggle switch for it. I know you guys don't like that idea but as for now it works. I'll probably have it hooked up to the ignition when I get it back from the shop.

 

ill check those as well, ive got some Dielectric grease that im going to put on both the connections you mentioned. but i do know i did not splice a wire onto my starter wire for sure. should be easy enough without ripping out all the wiring again from the cab.

 

Okay, so update. Not firing at all now even with cold start, ive hooked up the STA wire and still nothing. so im down to sensors or ignitor again. and its just such a pain in my ass now im thinking of taking it to a shop.

 

Darn man... Tell me- what connector/position do you have the following tied to?:
ECM +B?
Injectors?
B+ for MAF?

 

Just because you have fuel to the rail doesn't mean its pumping when the motor is trying to run. It will prime but won't keep running.
