Those guys who refuse to acknowledge the 3.4 swap and are happy with their 3.0s don't know what they're missing out on!

glad you got it figured out but I would still burp your system in you havent?

You have a manual in there? How? A tacoma 5sp? are you going thru the ref?

TOYOMOTO:
You could put any gears, lockers, whatever in my old 3.0 and when it blew more headgaskets, cost me more in gas, and lacked power to drive to the trail, it would just be harder to tow home with those low gears.
I'll never own another 3.0. I am looking to buy another 3.0 truck for my youngest son, but it'll get swapped immediately.

Agreed. Thinking maybe a 1st Gen 4Runner next time.

Or maybe even the Lexus V8 swap

yes the pros over the old 3.slow is just out of this world. Next thing to do is open up the fan shroud. Sucker hits every now and then.

i got the whole setup out of a 98 4Runner 4x4 Manual. So if the laws are correct the Suv's and Trucks are in the same category. But we will see. I also have the exhaust exiting out of the driveside... So we will see for sure.

Also i'm not going to bar until next year, as in June i will have to smog.

Id be interested if you get through or not. My smog ref said that there was a specicfic bulliten to all Ca. ref on the 3.4 swap and the crossover. I would assume your guy there will catch it.

You can go to the ref anytime since they do not actually smog it. You do not have to wait for your window that comes with your registration.

A little advise.....i would do it now while everything is fresh in your head in case you fail nd have to make changes. My memory on things has faded dramatically.

well i'm still working on the exhaust setup. my muffler guy wants 500. I don't have the stock cat from the 98 as i bought the setup from a Junk yard, as they cannot resale cats. So i'm going with a whole new system from CAT back. I might go with 2.5 piping as well. So this is one reason why i'm waiting.

I should point out that yes, the ref does smog the vehicle. You don't pay for the smog certificate unless you pass.

My gf always wants to move to cali because the money she can make for work, but man i love Ark because we no longer have inspections. There's no way my truck would ever be street legal out there, guess trailer queen she would become.

Hey Cadman......maybe its different here. I didnt pay anything (although I brought my checkbook to pay for the inspection because that what I have read) and he never smogged mine. No sniffer was ever hooked up, nor did he ever access the OBD2 port. I wonder what the deal is with that?

Were your tags current when you went to the ref?

Thats why he didn't smog you. I was filing non-op status for 3-4 years and needed a smog cert to get new tags. If you go to the ref with expired tags you'll get a smog test. All vehicles that can't pass smog are redirected to BAR stations.

Hey Demon

So if I understand corectly you are using a 98 3.4 with the 98 5speed as well. That would make the slave on the drivers side. You have no issues with clearance for the exhaust and the slave on the same side?

You have any pictures? I have been thinking of sourcing a Tacoma 5speed and using that.

No.... No....

Toyota Truck 92 4x4 Manual

Swap = 3.4 Engine, attached to the old 92 4x4 Trans, with the cut and flipped X-over.

This way when the REF looks at the ecu and it comes up 4x4 98 4Runner Manual, I should be in the clear. And there is no possible way of knowing if that trans is from the 98 or not.... All they should be concerned really if it passes smog... And everything else looks ligit, and it should be.

I should only have issue with the X-over if they don't like it. I had the guys from ToyOnlySwaps.com do the X-over for me, and it looks factory. I shipped out my stock unit, and they sent it back all modified for 150.00. I was willing to pay the price as i didn't have a welder, and I didn't want to take it down to the local Muffler Shop, as I knew they could do it, but i think the guys at ToyOnlySwaps.com have a jig, or an old engine for a jig.

I even called the Ref and they said the x-over flipped shouldn't be an issue as long as the cat and the rest of the exhaust is factory. I can always head down to the nearest REF and ask them in person. If i'm going to have issues with that i will use the 2000+ X-over as it looks more simplistic, because it doesn't use the dual dump into one chamber tube. Also I heard you can get more room out of it.

Also for another note I thought about what if you could just change the bell housings on the Older trans with the new trans to have the slave on the driver side. I'm not sure how close the bolt pattern is... It's a thought.... It may not even be close.

I posted this exact question over on the Marlin board a little bit ago.
