ok, can i use a 3.4 out of a t100 (1995) and the ecm out of the same vehicle and the wiring harness, then use my stock trans ? the reason i ask is everyone says i wont get a cel light if i do this. if this is the case then im swapping to a 3.4 and keepin the runner

 

THE REASON i ask about the 1995 is, in cali it wont have to be obd2 and in 1995 the made the t100 with 190 horses and a tow rating of 5000 lbs, well my boat is 3500 so this should be a great daily driver and it will tow my boat, pluss i can do a 2 inch lift and 33's on it, oh this would solve the whole get rid of it keep it arguement with me and my wifey

 

unheard of. this is in no way possible cant do it. hahahaaha just kidding. the 95 3.4 is RUMORED to have possible head gasket issues. What you want is everything you listed and the auto as well. The auto in there is a 340h set up with the electronic already in place. You shouldnt have any cel then. by the way whats the big deal with the cel????

All vehicles with the 3.4 are OBDII compliant. 1994 and 1995 were phase-in years for OBDII and it was mandated for all vehicles starting 1996.

my code scanner not only reads codes, but erases them as well. of course, they will come up again, but maybe not in the time it takes to get through the test if you do it right before you go through.

 

I DONT REALLY UNDERSTAND THAT LIST BUT IT SAYS YES TO THE TOTAL COMPLIANT LIST THING, does that mean its obd2?

I know on my 95.5 5vz DD tacoma, that the headgasket was replaced by Toyota. I believe it was the same deal as the 3.0's, if under 100k they replace it free. I think it was just an issue of coolant leaking out, and not as serious as the 3.0's problems.

Maybe call the dealership if you have the VIN and see if it was done?

so now that i know a 95 was obd2 then if im gonna do that then i might as well get a 97 or 98 truck engine 3.4 and use a t100 ecm, but will it run the smog devices and all? or is that mostly on vacuum lines? dam now im confuse about the obd2 stuff. what is the real difference? is it the diag port and just another o2 sensor? or is it more than that?????

 

you should use the engine, wiring harness, and computer from the same vehicle. Between years and models I would assume some of the pins on the ECU changed places. The plugs for automatic and manual transmission engines are COMPLETELY different at the ECU (no way to make them work, short of repinning all 50ish wires into new connectors), just FYI.

And there are few other differences between OBDI and OBDII:
-OBDII has 3 coils, OBDI has 1
-OBDI has a distributor, OBDII doesn't
-OBDII has 6 outputs at the ECU for injectors, OBDI only has 2 (it fires 3 at a time)
-OBDII can be a lot more specific as to what your problem is when there is a CEL...

That's really the main differences

 

great advise. so im gonna have to to a normal swap with my tranny and i need to learn how to confuse the ecm into thinking i have the newer transmission, or just buy the tranny too and use an adapter to get it to be all on the right side with my transfer case......

 

Your run down if differences in OBDI vs OBDII is more of a list of things different between the 5VZ and the 3VZ. There are plenty of OBDII vehicles with distributers. I can't really comment on the rest of the stuff though.

I'm more just pointing it out. I agree that it would be easier to use all the same stuff, but there have been people that have totally repinned and got it to work. That just takes more effort, and trouble shooting should a problem exist.
