yeah, that scared the crap out of me after i got done with my timing belt and tried to check my work. then i figured out that it's different every time you rotate it.

i used a right angle drill with a size u bit to drill my new dipstick hole. i also removed the exhaust manifold on that side to get the angle right. just hold the drill as steady as possible and keep it lubricated! and don't forget to cover the crankshaft to keep shavings out of the bearings!

So I got the new water pump, thermostat, timing belt, and oil pressure gauge on yesterday. All went well there.

Couple questions, first of all does anybody know what size threads this fuel pickup is? I just want to be able to attach a piece of 5/16" fuel hose to it. Or if anybody knows of fitting I can use, that would be great.

Also where does this port go to? And can I just plug it? Its on the passenger side block.

I am not sure about the threads for your fuel fitting.. but i do know that the nipple in the second pic is a drain for the water jacket. that bolt above it is the plug. unless it is in the way of your motor mount, it does not need to be altered.

That looks like the high pressure fuel line, be careful you don't want to attach low pressure hose there.

That port is the block coolant drain. I cut the spout off to make room for the engine mount. It will still drain without the little spout sticking out but you're just not able to attach a hose to it for catching the coolant.

Yeah, I have some 5/16 flexible EFI fuel line I want to attach to that pickup line. Just need a fitting for it. And then I have the 1/4" return which I will also run back to the fuel cell.

Thats kinda what I thought port was for. And it is in the way of the motor mount so I guess Ill trim it up.

Thanks!

The threads on that fuel fitting are 14mm X 1.50 thread pitch.

Put the motor and trans in today to check clearances:

Im using the stock exhaust crossover since I don't have the gas tank or parking brake anymore. But I also had to cut the front diff mount off since it was in the way.

As you can see its super close to the torsion bar though. Im going to take it off tomorrow as well as cut the mounts off. I'll be running a long travel kit with coilovers so I don't need them anyways. Plus Ill be able to keep the exhaust higher up.

Here is the ORS motor mount:

I need to trim about .125" off the passenger mount. Otherwise no issues there.

Everything else looks pretty good. The exhaust is real close to the brake lines, I may do new lines at some point. Probably just wrap the down pipe and build a heat shiled temporarily.

Also picked up a radiator from a 3.0 this week. Probably going to do an electric fan, not sure what one though.

And the interior, which is nothing more than a jungle jym of tubes, the ORS stand alone harness, and a steering wheel...

Yeah, the majority of it is for gauges and lights/switches. There's really not a lot to connect actually. Where to mount all the fuse blocks and relays is my biggest problem right now...

Darn close to being able to fire it. Need rad hoses, fan, batt cable, and a few misc things and I should be good.

Couple questions, first, since I am not running a heater right now should I plug the inlet and outlet on the back of the motor? Or loop it together with a piece of hose?

And on the PS return hose, can I just run a piece of rubber hose from the pump to the box? I seem to recall them having like a little oil cooler maybe?

From the pump to the box needs to be a high pressure hose. The return is low pressure and that's where you can put a cooler if you want. Edit: I think that's what you meant now that I re-read it. I just used ATF cooler hose on the return line. I'm also using a Hayden ATF cooler.

I can't see that it matters on the heat hose question. If it turns out that you need more cooling you can loop that heater hose through an oil cooler and lower your coolant temps (just like running the heater).

Yeah I already have a high pressure SS feed hose for the PS pump. I think I'll go ahead and get a cooler for the pump, better safe than sorry.

And I was planning on getting a Mojave type heater at some point, maybe I'll just order them both from Summit and be done with it.

Thanks!

Yeah, as I understand it the 3.4 PS pump is higher pressure than the older models because the rack and pinion steering needs higher pressure. If you hang out with the Taco guys you'll find a lot of them burn up the pumps. I don't know if that transfers over to the gear box steering we have or not, but it can't hurt to have a cooler. Our trucks did have that little hard line cooler. I just happened to have an extra tranny cooler, so I left it in place for the PS.

Been slowly tinkering away at it over the last couple weeks.

Got the radiator mounted, 3.0 shroud won't work so I guess I will just get an electric fan. Maybe a Taurus fan. Are their any other decent fans that fit the 3.0 radiators?

I also picked up a used Total Chaos Uniball kit so I ripped the old front end off. I'll be running a dual rate 10" Sway-a-way coil over and SAW bumpstops.

Also built a simple exhaust. Im using an o2 simulator so I ditched the cat completely.

Got most of the electronics and gauges mounted, minus the fuse blocks.

About all I need to do now is plumb the EVAP lines. Need to pick up a charcoal canister from the junkyard tomorrow. Then try and fire it, hopefully...
