First post in this section.. I am currently in the process of building my 87 4Runner into a rock crawler (My link to my build is in my signature). I'm always looking for additional input or suggestions on my build

Anyways, to make a long story short, I've been researching and doing a lot of reading for this swap. I currently have all the plugs needed for the swap with the exception of the E5 plug that goes to the 3.4 ECU, and have both the 99 Tacoma and 87 4Runner electrical wiring diagrams. Anyways, can someone from here tell me a good source to buy from and could tell me if this is the correct part # for the E5 plug: 9098-11638

Plugs I have.. From the 22RE: N2 and N3 plugs. From the 3.4: IK2 plug, OBDII plug, and cruise control plug


I have all the plug pin-outs labeled for the swap and have a file on my comp. I plan on doing the swap in August of 2012 (that's when I have to SMOG it again) I want to have a couple of years to troubleshoot before I get it BAR'd to make it completely legal in Cali

Additionally, can someone verify the year my engine harness is from. I'm 95 percent sure its from a 99 Tacoma 5-spd 3.4.. Number on the harness is 82121-3D500C61.. I already have the Manual 3.4 ECU, engine, all peripherals from the same vehicle. I just need the E5 plug. If someone has one laying around or is very knowledgeable about the swap at PM me.. I'd like to have them look at my wiring swap schematics to see if I overlooked anything.

The 90980-11638 is a 22 pin plug, and doesnt look like any of the plugs on the 99 taco 5vz ecu. The plug that would work for e5 on a 99 taco is a 90980-11218 which is a 28 pin plug and it looks correct according to what I'm looking at. These plugs come empty and you will need to supply the pins to fit in them, you can get those from toyota also - p/n 82998-24020, they come each, so count up how many you will actually need ( I seriously doubt it will be all 28) and then head up to your local dealer.

Wanted to add some additional info to this thread. Thanks to Jasond, I was able to source the correct plug for my swap, and now I have everything to complete my 3.4 swap adapter harness.

Here is the company info I bought the plug and pins from. They'll have all the other plugs needed for this swap

New United Race tech

Part # 5890 for the 99 E5 Tacoma plug
Part # 5872 for the pins that lock into the plugs (these are the pins for all plugs on the Tacoma ECU)

28 Pin E5 plug


E5 through E8 plugs for 3.4 ECU


Now that I have all the plugs needed for the swap, could someone familiar with 3.4 engines look over the following to see if I identified the wires and pin outs correctly for the IK2 plug (26 pins) and E5 plug (28 pins).

I was able to make my harness for the 3.4 swap.

Here it is.. still need to tie in the ODBII port power supply. They wiring diagram says its supplied from a 7.5 amp fuse. Can i either tie it into the STA line from the IK2 plug, or BATT line or BK line from E5 plug?

I'm also going to have questions regarding the AC system. Can anyone share or show me a couple of good threads regarding AC wiring and the 3.4 swap.

Just tie it to an IGN source. The w-l wire on the 3.4 stuff should work, or if your are upstream of the harness the its w-r

You surely cannot wire it to the STA wire. that is just an input from the starter letting the ECM know the motor is cranking. The OBD2 would need constant ignition power.

 

Thanks Jason. If I remember correctly, I think that may have been the harness to your 3.4 swap when I started this thread. It was a good example of what I wanted to do and I need to give credit where it's due. I know I ordered the RAD triple sticks after seeing them installed in your rig too. I just need to finish fabricating my transfer case parking brake before I can install the duals.

Additionally, where you ever able to get your AC working on your truck? I would like to have the wiring figured out before I do the swap (not too many 22re to 3.4 swaps here and not sure if it's different from the 3.0).

No Ac still for me. Truck sat a lot of the summer last year but this is going to be on the front burner after I complete the SAS.

I think that Hamish has it nailed, but it doesn't seem like he posts much over here anymore. He send me some info on wiring it in a PM, but I accidently deleted it.

I plan on using my 3.0L ac amp when I get to that point and trying to follow along with what UKrunner did.
