Its Running But now what ?

First let me Thank everyone that contributed to this section! I have been studying all the stickys since before Christmas. I would never have been able to complete this swap without all the advice and knowledge that this forum shared with me. Now for the problem Truck started right up on turning the key but its running so rich it burns my eyes and has no bottom end power. I got no codes till I unplugged the MAS and that killed the engine. Put a scanner on it and got a P0100 which I believe is Mass Airflow. We ohmed out the MAS and it checked out OK, just to be sure I swapped in another MAS off of a running tacoma... No change. I am wondering what direction I should be looking to find the problem?
Here are the specs. I pretty much followed everyone elses build and did exactly what they did.
1993 Toyota pickup with a manual tranny, 1998 Tacoma 3.4 engine that has original ECM for a manual tranny and wiring harness. I had toysonlyswaps build my conversion harness. I have both O2 sensors installed but not running a cat. It idles at about 1200 RPM with or without the throttle cable hooked up. Fuel return is routed correctly. I do not have the charcoal canister plugged in. I have all the vaccum ports that go to evap and such plugged off and can find no other vacuum leaks. I figure there has to be a sensor out of whack somewhere but don't know where to start. I have never posted on anything like this before but am really scratching my head as to what is causing it to overfuel. I am wondering if timing as I did not replace belt because it looked to be in very good shape but neglected to check timing marks while I was in there. Kicking myself for that right now.If I could get some direction of things to try I would really appreciate it.

Of course ther are things I forgot to type. I have driven it and it seems to run better above 3000 RPM but it has less power than my old 3.slow Still got up to 55 but when I turned around in the ditch it just barely got out.

Read something similar to this recently on another forum and it turned out to be the crankshaft positioning sensor was faulty.

You seem to have a lot of components missing or unused. I am not sure how that would effect anything related to your problem, but surely complicates things.

My goal this weekend is to figure out the routing of all the hoses to the charcoal canister from the 3.0. Try to do something similar to Elvotas I am really stressing that there may be some serious issues with the overfueling. I hope its something simple but my mind begins to think of all the terrible things I may have to go through to get it right

Did your Air flow meter, ECM, and Engine harness all come from the same tacoma? If not they changed the air flow meters half way through 98 so you may want to try the other style AFM,

Just for the record, so as not to confuse people in future searches, its a MAF and not a AFM on a 3.4

So today I hooked up all the Evap stuff with 3.4 charcoal brick and the wires and there was no change, still runing rich. Double checked the timing marks still right on. I did however find that I could pull the spark plug boot off of # 4 cylinder and there was no change in engine idle. It does have spark going to it. So I pulled the plug and it was black with soot, double checked the other plugs and they were good color. Just for kicks I did a compresion test while I was that far in, came out at 195 Psi with warm engine and WOT. All the other cyliders were about that too. Now I think I may have an injector thats pouring fuel into that cylinder. Does that sound like I am on the right track? I will see what it takes to test the injectors and how easy it is to get to them.

I would swap plugs with another cylinder and see if the misfire follows the spark plug. Its easier than swapping injectors and worth trying before you pull the intake.

So I was pretty sure I had an injector problem but after talking to Cliff at Toyonlswaps I think I may have a late model MAF when I should have a Pre 98. My MAF has 2 bolt holes on it, The wrecking yard said they would switch me MAF for an older one but, its an hour and a half drive. How do you identify my MAF and make sure I get the right one for my ECU. Also of note when I tried to start truck tonight it cranked for about 2 seconds then stalled like one of the cylinders came up against something, Almost like when the timing is off on a ditributed rig. I tried again and it fired up. After a while I got a multiple cylinder misfire code. Idled at around 800 rpm then as the water temp went up so did the idle. I got tired of thinking about it and shut it off and went home. Not sure if I should drive to portland tomorrow and switch MAFs or if thats a waste of time and fuel.

No progress things have gotten busy and haven't had time to fool with it. Found out monday I do have the right MAF so next thing I think I will try is pull the injectors to have tested. It was a junkyard motor no telling how long it sat. hopefully I fnd something wrong with them when I get around to pulling them. I will post my results.

Progress. Today as I was getting ready to pull the intake to get at the injectors I noticed something. Turns out my motor came from the wrecking yard with two wires swithed around on the coil packs. I CAN'T believe I missed that!!! swithched them around and boom..... Runs good now. I have a high idle as she warms up, around 1500 rpm and the tach bounces from 500 to 1500 as I let off the throttle and till I slow to a stop, but I am sure thats because I don't have the EVAP stuff hooked up. Anyway the thing running right is a huge bonus I am so happy!!! Thank you all for your suggestions and help I really appreciate it. I will keep scouring through the posts to see if I can find a cure for my high idle.

So far so good! I have put about 200 miles and she's running strong. I even took it down to the dunes and climbed the bowl in high range!! My high idle turned out to be the idle air control valve was all gummed up. This forum has been a lifesaver! Thank you to everyone who helped me with this project!
