Infil's 3.4 swap!
Hey everyone, just started the swap today.
Picked up a 1995 4runner with 100k on it for $1000.
Today we took off the tranny bolts, starter, flywheel bolts, and most of the hoses and wiring harness.
I need some help and stuff guys!
1) Where can I find a 3.4!? I've looked everywhere. No one here replies to me when I make an offer!
2) I'm keeping the stock tranny, so what will be different about this swap (auto)? What do I need to do differently?
3) I'm not sure I get the whole ECU thing... I need a 3.4 ECU with the engine harness? Will the ECU have to be automatic since I am keeping the auto tranny?
More questions will come soon, and pics of the motor comming out tomorrow will be up tomorrow night!

Man I have been looking since July for a donor and just got one this last weekend.
If you are staying auto you will want a auto trans, ecm, and harness. Best to get out of same vehicle. I have an auto harness and ecm if you find a motor but no trans. I'll make you a good deal; just enough to get a 5 speed harness and ecm. ECM controls shifting the auto trans so you need a ecm for that
Good luck. I am starting to typing this as my son went to the store to get bolts to mount the 3.4 to the stand so i am knee deep in now.

Wait, maybe I didn't understand what you are saying, but do I need the 3.4 auto trans? I may just take you up on that offer. I will definately PM you for more details when I get an engine.
Why is it best to get the ECU and harness from the same truck as the engine? Is it hard to wire the ECU from the 3.4 to the 3.0 transmission? Let me know some details.

No you dont NEED to auto. Many guys here have done the swap using their 5 speed. I however, am not one of them, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I am currently doing the swap as well and plan on using a 5 speed.
I misread your post. I thought you planned on using the auto from your donor. Sorry about that.
As to "is it hard to wire the ECU" question......i damn well hope not cause that is coming up for me!
Read all the sticky threads up top, search "cadman" and read his thread. Just find one of his posts and there is a link in his signature.
You'll read for days.....literally. Then you'll have an good starting point. At least thats what I did.

Made much more progress today.
Took out the engine, and it got stuck on the condenser! Thanks to a good ol' crow bar, she came out...
PICS:

So now, I have a problem. Remember how I bought the truck for $1000 bucks. It only has 100k on it, but I see a Toyota dealer invoice which says "customer states that the truck has MAJOR oil leaks, and says the transmission slips from 2nd to 3rd"...
Now I may just need a new tranny....
BUT!
I know the transfer cases for the 3.4 tranny are on the opposite side!!!
What can I do!?? Should I keep the tranny and rebuild it?
I really need some help guys..
ALSO!!!
On the last page with all the hoses and such, it is a little intimidating to me. What hoses on that last pic can I remove? What has to stay for the 3.4?
What exactly needs to come off the 3.0 other than the oil pan?
Should I keep my condenser/ all A/C stuff?
What about the PS pump?
I am gonna scrap the engine, so let me know ALL THE THINGS that I need!
I appreciate the help.

Keep all your A/C stuff. Take the top plate and hoses off the 3.0 and swap them onto the 3.4 compressor.
I used the 3.4 power steering pump. Hand to cut a little piece off the hose end. You'll see when you swap them.
You'll need your dipstick, too.

In my opinion, you should bring that lift over to my house. I am only up the highway a few miles!!
Those 5 speeds are around everywhere and cheap. Probably get one for $100
Search the classifieds here and ttora.com.

Well dntsdad, Cali is my hometown, but I am stationed in South Carolina (in the navy). I should probably change my hometown thing here but have been too lazy.
Still searching for an engine, and possibly to do a harness conversion for me.... Still searchin... Only thing I need is a possible A/C hookup..
Until then, not much is goin on in terms of the swap. Next weekend I might pressure wash the truck..
No one seems to be able to tell me what hoses I can ditch from this setup. I'm too scared to just pull any of them.
I bought the 4runner with the thrown rod BTW storm.

looks like your alt plug is the right one for 3.4 alt. Lucky! You can pull the power cable to the starter as well as the negative. As for vacum hoses you can unbolt the plate on the passenger fender well that has 2 or 3 vacum solenoids that ran to the motor. You can also pull the 3.0 wire harness and set that too the side, pull the 3.0 ecu, take the 3.0 motor mounts with the brakets, grab the 3.0 oil pan, baffle plate, oil pressure sendor, and pickup tube for the oil pump. If you're reusing your tranny then keep the starter and flex plate for the tranny.

Sorry for not posting in a while, but here's what I got...
I have a lead on a nice 3.4 with harness and ECU for 1500$ at a local yard down here in Charleston, SC. If it all goes as planned, I may pick it up this weekend.
Now wiring is one of my biggest fears.
I had such a hard time wiring my girlfriends Honda Civic with a new stereo, letalone this new harness.
My question is this. (I am a complete tard, so please pardon the dumbness)
-The 3.4 engine will bolt right into the tranny (with that plate still shown in the picture) and the wiring harness will connect everything together.
-The harness will be just like the 3.0 and come in through the firewall to the 3.4 ECU.
Then it hooks up nice and easy..
So the hard part is getting the wiring that goes to the dash (only) wired to the new ECU right? Am I messed up on this? How do I disconnect the wires that lead to the dash area?
-These wires need to be in a certain PIN configuration so that they will plug into the new ECU right?
So just reconfigure the pins based on wiring from different yota years, and BAM?!
What else do I need to wire? Am I correct on what's going on?
Please get back to me guys. You have been there for the last yota, now I need a running truck already!!!

I am not there yet but I would highly suggest you spend 3-4 hours reading all those sticky threads above. Not trying to be one of those jerk that says SEARCH when you ask a question but you will understand things more when you read all that. I would have never even attempted this without those there......and if this site went away tomorrow I would grab a 5 gallon can of gas and a match.

Okay people once again it is not required to use a 3.4 tranny when swapping from 3.0 to 3.4 Doesn't matter AUTO or Not. YOU DO NOT have to use 3.4 tranny. 3.0 Auto is same transmission as 3.4 the only differnces are slightly less clutch pack pressure and a different Tranfer case. Now If u want to keep the 3.0 Trans which is way less hassle. Use a T100 3.4 Auto Harness and ECU. OR UKRunner has developed some kind of conversion to convert the output of the stock 3.0 Speed sensor over to the signal the 3.4 is looking for.
