Kay so I have a 1992 4runner with a 4cyl in it and I'm looking to do a 3.4 swap with later a sc. Any tips? What all would I need to do? Is there any issues? I'm new to the motor swapping community. Thanks for the help!

thanks man. I saw a good thread about a guy swapping the 3.4 in rather than his 3.0 and have so much info on those two.

 

Browse through my 3.4 swap thread. I'm doing a 4 cyl to 3.4 in the same generation, so it should all be at least somewhat relevant

You must have wiring diagrams for your current vehicle and for the one you are swapping in.


I also recommend getting a complete running donor vehicle. You will be glad you did.

 

anything else beside wiring diagrams? What about the ecu or ac, or the drive lines and such?

 

You should have just about all you need if you get a complete vehicle minus some conversion items.


Start reading as many 22RE to 3.4 swap threads as you can so you have a better idea of what you will need.


If you don't get a complete donor, you will be making a lot of trips to the bone yard or searching online for parts and advice.


Get a running donor so you don't finish your swap only to find out the engine is bad.


A complete donor also ensures parts compatibility. Otherwise you will be trying to find out why your 19xx engine harness isn't working with your 19xx ECM which may be for an auto and you wanted a manual and now you have codes and can't figure out why.


Plenty of people have pieced together their swap successfully but read all the posts of those who had problems, lots of problems. And delays looking for parts and troubleshooting.


Take the time to find a running donor instead of even more time doing it the hard way. Take what you need off of it and part out the rest. It will pay for your swap.


I used SO many things off my donor. I have an awesome Toyota bolt and parts collection and parting the rest out paid for the swap and bought me plenty of extra goodies for my crawler.


Just my two cents. I didn't really have a dedicated build thread but have plenty of posts with pics of my swap. Look up my posts, I'm sure there is some info you could use for your swap.
