Getting Ready to do a 3.4 swap - Need Help
Ok, So I am new here and just looking for some help and mabye some good advise.
I just picked up a 88 4runner with a blown engine, I am wanting to do a 3.4 swap and am looking at a couple of different engine possibilities.
I am thinking of getting a used 3.4 out of a 96 t100. I picked up a TRD SC out of a 97 t100.
Any help would be great.

well from what i have heard, the 3.4 out of a t100 is a lot harder to come by then one out of a 4runner or tacoma.
i wouldnt stress to much about the dip stick and tube relocation. i think i made a big thing out of a lil thing in my head until i did it myself. i did mine yesterday and it was no sweat.

I am going to look at a couple of different engines tomorrow:
1. 96 t100 3.4 manual with 140k for ~ $500 (no ecu)
2. 96 4runner 3.4 manual with 104K ~ $450 (no wiring harness or ecu)
3. 3.4 auto with 35K ~ $1,000 (no ecu, but does have the ORS exhaust crossover and the oilpan/dipstick conversion already done)
I was leaning towards the t100, I figured the price difference made up for the lack of the ORS exhaust kit)
suggestions?

well i dont think that the crossover pipe and the dipsick relocation is an extra $500. but then again that motor only has "35K".
toyota motors should run forever so i would look at one of the 96 models.as far as the ecu and wiring harness are concerned, you can get a hold of TMZ for the correct parts you need. he can also make you a conversion harness for way cheaper than the previous o.r.s. charged.

why dont you make up a parts list and make sure the motor you buy comes with the accesories. do you need to be smog legal? then make sure you get the charcoal canistor from the same rig. Its best if you get every thing matching from the same rig. other wise you'll be jumping from wrecker to wrecker looking for parts that will match up. please make sure you read the write ups of others in this link https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f160/ so you know what to expect. The link for andrew zook is also a good one. I got lucky and found a complete swap with every thing under the hood and the wire harness from the dash as well with ecu, a/c amp, and they even gave me the down pipe with o2 sensors and fuel lines to the tank and the fuel pump all for 1500. Because i got everything from the same rig i got my swap done in 2 weeks working all day on weekends and spending 1-2 hours during m-f. Good luck man

From reading around the forum of 3.4 swaps it seems most the issues are from folks getting parts from everywhere instead of the donor vehicle. Like Vital22re said. Yes you could peice them together, but me personally would wait for a wreck that has the ECU and Harness, with the complete long block and I think you will be much more pleased and likely save some money in the process. Just my oppinion.

Check with STP Import wreckers there in Denver that where I got my engine and they may have a ECU for you. Though I didn't see to many T100, I did see lots of Tacomas. Other then that you can check Google there is a few sites that sell just ECU's

Hey Jakel, I'm down in Arvada doing the same swap. I have a 88 3.0 5 speed and my donor is that 104,000 mile engine you were looking at (option 2). We should hook up. My harness and ECU should arrive tomorrow. I bought it from a member here and would be happy to share his info with ya!
