EVAP canister

Can someone tell me the purpose of the canister. I am using the 3.0 one with the 3.0 line to the tank hooked up, but what line do i use for the purge that is on the 3.4, can i just cap it off or would that cause problems?

I couldn't figure that out either and gave up and just used the new EVAP. I had the 91 EVAP with that line capped off and threw no codes. Had a high idle and thought that was it but was likely the IAC.

no idea either. I dont really understand what it does. I just hooked up everything the way the manuals said and the ref agreed.

Evoltra's sticky references the evap and he used the 3.0. Have you looked through that? I think that he had similar isssues but i could be jumbling info together.

Have a peek and see if your issue is addressed there.

we swapped ours over to the 98 model evap system, picked up the canister from a junk yard for 50$ with all the sensors.

We hooked it up per the 98 layout, works perfect with no trouble codes

Evaporative emmisons control. It stores filters and recrualates HC's back into the combustion chamber. The gases that the "gas" in your gas tank have to go somewhere rather too much outside they are taken by the EVAP system stored filtered and recurculated.
