a/c clutch changeover

So, slowly working away on my 3.4 swap into my 1st gen 89 4runner. Want to just swap the a/c clutch or pulley (or both?) to my 3.0 compressor so I don't have to upset my a/c system. Only problem I have is how the hell do I get it (the clutch assembly and/or pulley) off the compressor. I've never touched anything dealing with a/c before, but everything else is going smooth so far.

I just did this. I got a compressor from a junkyard with the clutch assembly on it. getting it off was a little hard for the 3.4. had to massage it with a rubber mallet a bit. you need to unbolt the center bolt. then stick something down inside and with a larger bolt tighten it onto the clutch. This pulls the clutch off the compressor. Then there is a snap ring, and then the pulley comes off. Then another snap ring and the stator comes off. I chose to just keep my stator on as I couldn't get the screw loose to get the wires off the compressor. the pulley just came right off easily on my 3.0 one. The stators are exactly the same. Same part number on them and all. Everything goes back on in the reverse order.

sorry if I was a bit vague on taking the clutch off the compressor shaft. You may want to look at your FSM in the AC section to kinda get a picture of what I am talking about. Apparently they make a SST for this, I just cut the head off a bolt that was smaller than the one I took out, and dropped it in to where the larger bolt touched with a few threads. Bah its to hard to explain. look in the FSM

I have been in the middle of the same thing. I determined that it was the clutch bearing that had locked up. With heat and age arrives motivation. Mine is a 22re, I wonder if the compressors are the same? Anyway, dropped the compressor, removed the center bolt, not thinking it was repaireable (exploratory surgery you know) I beat the pulley off from the rear, turned out ok but not recommended. Long story short, bought a new bearing on ebay for $19.00. Bearing identification: Looking at the bearing, at 12 oclock says (134), at 4 oclock says (NSK), at 7 oclock says (30BD5222DUM6). Perfect fit, also bought a new coil/stator but it has no identification from the same ebayer. The only problem I had was the spacing of the clutch face to the coil, it was too close and stayed engaged. I took it off and added a little washer under the pulley (the center bolt goes through it) to increase the spacing. Works fine now.

Got swapped out, thanks for the help. I know I'll be back with more questions later as I plug away at this.
