Another CARB legal 3.4L Swap!

From this:

To this:

It has been a long road for me and have been putting off refereeing my truck for a while now. With the smog laws being so volatile I don't think I could continue to sneak it through as a 91 consistently so I went through the effort of making it all legal using all the donor parts emissions equipment. After reading what a few members had gone through I thought I was going to have to change everything related to my exhaust since I'm running downey headers and a custom crossover to come out on the drivers side. When I brought it in the first time it failed bc of a bad o2 sensor, didn't have the right cat on it for the year, and I didnt have the CARB number for the headers. No changes to the exhaust routing!
I then fixed all that then brought it back and it barely passed the dyno test. Hydrocarbons were high, but it passed so I'm not going to worry about it but I assume it's because I hardly drove it and the engine sat for a while.
Here's a pic after I got new wheels and tires for it to replace the MTs...

Thanks to Mt goat, elvota, breknraj, and all the rest of the yotatech crew for providing such a fantastic resource for anybody venturing this swap.

Dnts, I went to the miramar college location. I did first am appts both times and just did everything he said and tried not to annoy him. He was only a stickler on the right parts for the year and a carb#. I was worried bc I had heard some bad stories about any of the SD locations.

We had an event at my work and he was a celebrity judge for a bunch of stuff we were doing. I didn't even recognize him at first and somebody pointed him out to me. He was such a nice guy! There were others there that wanted to have their off road vehicles signed but since mine was a Toyota he was very willing to do the extra photos. He asked me to show everything I did to it so I took him through the swap and was impressed that I did it all myself. A definite highlight of my year for sure! I'm never getting rid of my 'goose now!

after I cut out the battery tray prepping for the airbox.

Airbox in

The mod I had to do on the evap box because it was busted. I harvested one from another that was cracked.

Batt and evap mounted and ready...
Used the 3.4 fan and modded the 3.0 shroud. 1.5in BL and I didn't move the radiator. Hopefully it will be cool enough. I haven't seen any issues yet but I also haven't done any summer desert runs to thoroughly test.

Awesome! I was thinking that was you, I'm sure we've met at some point during one of the company events. I didn't know you had a yota, I thought you just had a ranger. Are you doing a 3.4 swap also or have you done one already/
Tell her I said hi, it was great to have worked with her.
Not sure I'll run in to Ivan again but I'll try to remember the name!

OK, now there's TWO OF YOU.... So I should have NO PROBLEM knocking this swap out in a weekend with ya'all, right? hahahaha. JK,...............FOR NOW! lol...

I'm just taking my time doing tons of research on all the different swaps, benefits and negatives, etc., etc. I always seem to come back to the BIG THREE being the most practical, depending on what you want out of them/are willing to sacrifice for one thing or the other, etc., etc., right? >>>>>

3RZ

5VZE

1UZ

Then of course there's the LS1 and 5.0 and ON AND ON, lol. But those three,...they seem to make the most sense in the guides of "DO IT ONCE AND FOR A LONG TIME!"- SWAP, ya know?

I like the 5&7MGE(TE as well) swaps... Even like working on the straight motors a bit more.. But something just scares me bout that 7MGTE HG DRAMA! hahaha.

Anyway, sorry for rambling.. I JUST LOVE reading through this from time to time, lol... The whole "iron man" section is a bonus, ya know? lol.
