Got the adapter to run geared cases behind the R150; most of the 98 is still here but I'm going to push this project forward soon. Tomorrow I'm getting tags for a DD, I picked up a pair of 86 SR5 4Runners last week for $600. One will be DD, the other may become a truggy next year. Both run, the guy was moving and couldn't take them.
Score for me!
The DD will be given to my girlfriend after the 3.4 swap because back in January I told her I'd get her one this year. She likes 'em, and she bought me 5 used 38" MTRs without me asking for them.
However, the more I look at this Tacoma with the bobbed bed (in progress) I'm starting to think about keeping it for a truggy project too.

Well almost a year later...

Let's see, what happened:
started wheeling it as-is
swapped in locked n geared axles
got 38s
plumbed in hydro assist
- ran a cooler
- drilled the pump restriction dealie
picked up a new engnbldr head
- 261* cam
- bigger valves
LCE header into 2.25 piping
more lights n junk

Last September I royally roasted the clutch, so that was the starting point of the actual 3.4 swap; pulled the 22RE/trans/cases in a weekend and replaced the timing set/water pump/etc in the 3.4 the next.

So far:
plated the frame
pulled the 22RE wiring
gutted the dash to get at stuff better
cleaned out all the HVAC stuff
installed a tilt steering column
got a rear seat delete panel
decided to do head gaskets on the 3.4 (286k on OEM stuff... uh, no)
pulled every wire from the donor truck
broke that down by system and tossed a LOT of it (ABS, A/C, cruise, E-Locker, air bags, etc...)
loosely bolted on the T100 rear sump pan
attached the R150
lowered it into the engine bay
cried a little tear of joy

Now:
more wiring
figure out engine mounts; I am not paying for stuff I can make (plasma table at work )
do the exhaust flip-a-roo
...and everything else. My initial goal was to have this at least running by the end of March, but with the crummy winter weather, that doesn't seem to realistic.

That, and life has been a bitch so far this year; but she's coming out of it. Things are getting done, I'm staying focused (kind of) and I am ready to get this turdball on the trail again.

Yeah
