Nice truck! I want to do the 3.4 to mine so bad. Just need to figure out where i can keep a wrecked truck for a while..
Good to see another 88 pickup around that is getting a 3.4, was hoping for a thread like this! Keep the info coming about weird quirks revolving around the 88 and your swap, had no idea about those motor mount differences. Here is mine, 3.0 for now!

What do you have planned for after the swap? got some more clearance with those fenders!

nice truck! looks exactly like mine!
after the swap im going to start working on a LT kit with usable 4x4. deavers in the rear with a small bed cage. i dont want to get fiberglass in the rear, i think gen2s look retarded with glass in the rear. i once saw a guy that pulled his bed sides and thats what i want to try todo just to clear my 33s.in my dreams i plan on putting a turbo on it.ha
what do you have done to your 88??

Sounds like a good plan, i have not seen too many of these with fiberglass in the rear. I agree about it looking a little silly. Seeing those pulled out a bit tho would be cool.
I have not done much to mine, yet. Painted it myself a few years ago the stock color and rebuilt the 3.0 at 150k. Just a 2inch Body lift, wheels, tires, exhaust.. headers soon. were supposed to be here about 2 months ago but im stilll waiting on them so its just cat back for now. Just put a lineX bedliner which i love a lot more than i expected. I had it stock for the last 8 years, then just this year decided to spend some cash on it instead of trying to buy a newer tacoma. The 3.4 swap sounds awesome. Id love to do a SC at the same time, but i dont have any space to do it right now which is a bummer.
That long travel kit sounds like it should be a nice adventure. I imagine after you get the 3.4 all settled that should be a walk in the park! Everyone says SAS it but i think that the LT kit would be just as much fun

ya if i was more of a wheeler id SAS it. but i do more high speed stuff. and it will be used as a chase truck when i race long races.
mine has stock wheels, painted black w/ 33s.
tube front and rear bumpers.
my seats and door panels are being done in black and grey.
i put some procomp shocks on a few years back.
sound system. 2 12' subs, 2 6 by 9s, 2 4s, alpine head unit.
cut bed sides
HIDs w/ projector housings.
i cant think of anything else right now.ha
im always doing somthing to this damn thing. since i cant get the motor in im painting all of my interior pieces black. i want to build a center console that also goes around the shifters. any ideas?? or examples?

Sounds familiar
I just had this same problem with my '88 4runner 3.0 swap. I ground off the 3/16 (thinkness of the motor mount) on the A/C bracket's lower bolt hole from behind and used 2-3 washers on the top hole to sandwich it in there.
So the lower bolt will go through the bracket first, them through the motor mount and into the block. The upper bolt will go through the A/C bracket, then through 2-3 washers, then through the motor mount and into the block.
Just a note as well, my setup did not use the lower rear bolt of the motor mount. So when you are done, you will have three bolts holding the mount to the block. (same amount as the 3.4 used, but different holes)
You want to make sure that the A/C bracket is sitting against the block properly when you are finished, because if you don't it throws off the belt alignment with the crank pulley. I learned this the hard way.
Here is my build thread that should be quite similar to what you are doing since they are both '88 3.0's.
