3.4 Swap Tach

Hello, I have been searching around for the proper area to solder on the resistor on this tach, but I can't seem to find the same design as mine. The closest I saw in my searches was for a 22RTE.

My drivetrain donor was a 1996 T100 4x4 MT and the truck it went into is an 84 22R 4Runner. The tach I believe is out of an 86 4Runner, I got it a while ago off eBay. It worked with the 22R, but now I can't get it to read at all, as expected, and am not sure where to solder in the resistor.

Thanks for any input.

-Tony

I had an 85 SR5 cluster with a tach that was originally for a 22RE. Worked great with my 22RE. I had several electronic savvy people try to tell me how to get it to work with my 3.4 and I never could. Then I was told I had to use a tach from a truck that had the 3.0 3RZ engine. I never found a tach or cluster from a 3.0 so I gave up on a working tach. The resister mods I saw were for 3.0 to 3.4 swaps so maybe that is the answer. Good luck, I hope you get it working. Please follow up if you do.

You may have to buy a later model tach. I swapped my 87 4runner 22re to 5vz and used original tach. However, it looks nothing like yours. Sell that one and buy a different one

When researching my swap, I grabbed this pic from somewhere - sorry, I don't remember where I got it... Hope it helps.

Bypass the resistor indicated by the screwdriver, just solder a 10K ohm across it, I believe.
