3.4 swap and SAS 91 runner

Alright here it goes... This build is basically done at this point so now I have the time to post up some pics!

It started last October when I picked up the 91 I had been asking on for a few years. I would approach the owner every few months and leave my number and it paid off... they called me on afternoon and told me to come get it if iI was still interested and for $600 I was definitely was!

this is it on the short drive home. my friend was driving a wrecker at the time so i got a free tow!

it was actually pretty clean to begin with but had the typical soda stains and years of dirt packed in everywhere. i didn't take many pics but i stripped the ENTIRE interior and cleaned it... even pulled the seat cover off and washed them. it sucked but well worth it!

it sat for a little while in my parents driveway until I gathered parts and money so I threw my 31's on just because

the original plan for this runner was a 1uz that I had stored but I was doing a 1uz swap into a first gen runner at the time and it kinda wore me out. i was more familiar with the 3.4 so I decided to go that route. I sold the 1uz to my bro in law and picked up a 3.4 soon after for $600 with only 37k on it! so now with some motivation I got started. I did all the SAS first while the motor was out to make things easier.

I don't have many pictures but I will post what I have.

bunch of greasy axle parts in the back of my old 86

cleaned it up and did the usual mods and rebuilt the knuckles and the ifs hub mod.

getting things mocked up.

getting closer... blasted and painted the bumper and wanted to see how it looked.

Got the motor in. sorry no pics of the prep but I used 2wd t-100 oil pan, pick up, and dipstick. built the crossover out of the factory one.

I have pretty much everything buttoned up now like intake batt box and such I did chevies on the rear and a mutt spring pack on the front and am sitting on 31's still

the front has settled a little bit and i am really happy with the ride height. I got my front Bilstein 5125's on and it rides great.

I would be happy to snap any pics for any one if you want or answer any questions! let me know what you think!

The fronts??? I wish I knew exactly lol. I got them off the donor truck I got the front axle from. they looked to us to be an after market lift spring. the truck sat just a little taller the stock and they were just a little longer then a factory set. I know that six states sells a similar set but they are very stiff and these are actually really nice. I was going for low as possible and they worked out alright.

I think that's the lowest SAS I've ever seen. Great job on the swap. You have more details like what year was your engine from? is it auto or manual?
What issues did you have during the swap?

Yeah, it looks crazy good low. Im beginning to think that a stock leaf pack + an add a leaf and stock shackle will look pretty damn good for an SAS.

yes like i said low is what i was going for and i am very pleased with how it turned out. i did not use a flip on the front simply because i had these available and i guess i should have mentioned that my intentions with this is going be be strictly expedition. i still have allot of add on's to get to that point but will keep everyone updated. the motor is from a 98 4runner auto 2wd that was wrecked and the motor was sitting for about 4 years. the 91 is a 5speed stock trans and tcase. sam4runner actually helped me wire it over the phone he is very knowledgeable with it and happy to help. thanks sam.

The Rear is Just a set of 2wd 63" chevies it sits a little lower in the back so i might put a stock chev overload in soon. I took it camping overnight and had to go through some deep soft sand and the axle wrap was almost unbearable.....I STILL don't have rear shocks on which was a big contributor to the hop so hopefully I can get that buttoned up soon. all I need now is a front drive line and some hub parts and I can actually use it... I need to build a roof rack and maybe some sliders soon but I am tapped out at the moment.

Okay... so not much has changed but i feel the urge to post some pictures for whatever reason. i finally got front and rear shocks done a while back so now its actually enjoyable to drive.

(there is sam4runner in the background)

I got a decent deal on some 33x10.5 15 km2's from a friend so i threw them on.

next on the list is front driveline and get the hubs buttoned up.

I want to start on a rear bumper/carrier here soon if i can get some money together....but that probably wont be for a while I have a few ideas in mind but was looking for some input from others on here. 2nd gen bumpers don't seem really popular in the style i like (not tube). any input?? pics? thanks!

So it has been a while since this has been updated but its also been a while since he runner has gotten any attention. I recently swapped out my rear 63's (2wd 2 leaf pack) for a pair of 3/4 ton springs to help level it out and improve the ride, which it did! Also I wired in a manual ECU, hooked up al the evap system, welded in a cat, got a factory intake and a few other little thing that needed to be done. Before that me and a friend built a rear bumper and some sliders.

I think I will be changing a few things on the bumper so i can build a swing-out on it. Ill probably replace the round tube on the sides with some box tube and plate so I can put a spindle in it. bu t for now it works great and is much more beat up now lol. There are actually supports to the frame on the round tube sections which helps allot. I also aquired a massive dent in my door worst part is it happened in the driveway and its not covered by insurance...

I love love love your truck. The low SAS looks great. Also I want a rear bumper like that. That looks nicer than any aftermarket rear tube bumper I've seen. Nice job
