3.4 swap help needed

When you do this, look at other diagrams as well. There is more than just engine control in theses harness connectors. It has part of the fuel pump control, a/c control, the signal for the gauges, the brake light input, and possibly a few others that i cant think of off the top of my head.

not that i would trust, i spent some time figuring out what all I would need in mine and building the harness, and then double checking the harness aginst the wiring manuals. If i did all that for nothing b/c the aftermarket manuals are junk and got the wire location wrong then I would have been pissed

Not trying to hijack this thread (sorry), but I'm curious as to how much of the original body harness is actually needed to get the motor to run? Seems most of the body functions have nothing to do with the original motor at all since it is pre OBD II. Even the diagnostic jumper pins are in the engine compartment. Is the complete 3.4 "engine" harness all that's needed to get it to run? Or am I going to need to add stuff to the existing body harness like an OBD II port, evap system, and anything else?

You don't need any of the original body harness for the swap. As long as you have all of the plugs for the ECU (thats the catch, ECU plugs are sometimes hard to come by). The Evap harness is included in the main engine harness and the OBDII plug can be grabbed from any 1996 or newer vehicle. I used an OBDII plug from a Chrysler. You need to modify your tach to accept the 5vz tach signal. Everything else is the same. Don't know about the park neutral switch; that should be tied into the start relay IIRC and it shouldn't affect the ECU except to provide a start signal when cranking.

Thanks for the replies. I am swapping out my 22RE for a 1997 T100 3.4 and already have everything I need except for a couple misc. Toyota parts. MY 22RE is a manual, and the 3.4 is from an automatic. I have a R150 manual transmission from the same year truck as the motor that I am going to use. Automatic computer with a manual transmission.... It will never work
Anyways, I already checked the block and it will accept a pilot bearing for the manual transmission, so I think I'm ok.
I didn't realize the ECU needed a plug not included in the engine harness, so thanks for clearing that up guys. I just looked, and my ECU has 4 plugs in it, 3 of which my 3.4 engine harness plugs into to. The far right plug is the one I need to find then.
I'm not too familiar with OBD II, but I'm assuming it wires into the missing plug for the ECU? I'm sure a decent wiring diagram will help me out.

Get a factory EWD (electrical wiring diagram) for both your truck and the motor wiring. This way you can have both diagrams side by side and build your harness with the least amount of trouble. The OBDII plug is a joke; it only uses one signal wire from the ECU- IIRC it's labeled SIL or something.. The other 3 wires are power and ground I believe..

Downloaded both wiring diagrams from infotech.toyota.com. $10 is worth it to me to know that the diagrams are correct. I was getting a little sketched out about wiring issues, but if I can get the missing plug I think it should be no problem. Thanks again for the help.
