3.4 Swap Clutch Fork and TO Bearing Info

Here is some info that may help regarding clutch fork and 3.0 TO bearing compatibility. The reason I took the time to do this is because I saw a thread where a guy said he used his old W56 TO bearing and fork and people didn't believe him.

I have 3 clutch forks. One from my original W56B, one from my Early (Pre 96) 3.0 R150F and one from my (Late 96-up) 3.4 R150F.

The forks are all basically the same and will fit your 3.4 swap using the 3.0, 3.4 R150F or the R151F with the 3.0 bell housing.

I only have two in the pics because my son took off with one of them for his truck. Trust me they were the same.

The ONLY difference is the early R150F and W56B had a wider end. The area that holds the bearing is the same so the slight width difference here doesn't matter.

The length and geometry, location of pivot points are all the same.

Here's some pics with the 3.0 TO bearing and my old W56B TO bearing. When I went to my R151F I used the same fork and TO bearing with no problems.

The look different but the critical dimensions are the same. They fit the fork in the same spot and the distance to contact the clutch is the same.

I compared the contact surface of the two bearings since they look so different. The one from the W56 is about 5 years old. The surface is slightly convex and you can see the wear pattern is the same size and location as the new 3.0 bearing.

Some of the pics make it look like they aren't EXACTLY the same dimensions because I took the pics on a warped plastic table.

When you hold the parts side by side and measure, they are the same.

Just curious what clutch slave cylinder did you use ??

I have seen different ones over the years.

I have never taken the time to sit down and measure them.

I would guess since I am using the R151F with the 3.0 bell housing one for a R150F should work.

Very nice writeup!!

I used the same stock slave I had on my W56. I would think the R150F slave from the 3.0 would work but, I don't have one to compare. The R151F should work too.

The one I have from the 3.4 looks the same and bolts on but, the bleeder ends up on the bottom since it is designed to be on the driver side of the bell housing. It also seems to have a heavier spring inside.

Just what clutch did you end up using ??

I know you had to be frugal in your build.

Now I have the whole clutch kit for the 22RTEC including flywheel that was for the project vehicle before I got to good of an offer on the engine.

I can`t see why this would not work??

With the long work days I might have missed it on your other threads

I used a 3.4 flywheel and clutch. A bell housing and TO bearing from a 3.0 R150F and my R151F trans.

I was just pointing out the forks I mentioned are all the same. I don't know if a Turbo clutch would work.

Even if it did fit, wouldn't it be a lot smaller? Unless it was the same size as the 3.0 which we know will fit.

Do you have a 3.0 clutch and flywheel to compare it to? The ring gear would have to work with the starter too. Does it even have the same bolt pattern as a 22RET crank?

Only way to know for sure is see if it bolts up to a 3.4 and stick a 3.0 bell housing fork and TO bearing on and see how it all lines up.
