3.4 Rebuild. Have some hypothetical questions
I have found a 3.4L with 105,000 on it. It's at a junkyard, but there is a problem..... it's been clunkered.
Someone please tell me why I can't do a full rebuild on this motor. The junkyard is more than willing to give me the motor and all attached for $300.
Won't a full rebuild clean out all that sodium silicate? Replace the camshafts and the crankshaft, hone it, media blast it, new internals, etc.
Is this possible or am I living a pipe dream of getting this engine for cheap?
Thanks all.

It really hard to say how much damage there is without pulling it appart. You may need to have all the bearings in the block machined and oversized. And new heads. You wont know untill you pull the motor apart and measure everything!

from my understanding they run the motors until they overheat and shutdown, its sad really, so i would assume that the heads would be warped and all the bearings and seals would be shot. i would look for a better candidate if i were you.

Cash for clunkers is bad news for us enthusiasts that thrive on these unwanted vehicles...
