NEED HELP ASAP !!! i found a 3.4 motor w/ecu and harness but not sure if its a manual or auto the guy think its an auto but not sure, its out of a 99 tacoma. How do i find out what it is.

Also found a guy that has an 03 & 04 but not sure if this will bolt up and if it does what would i have to change. Please help these are currently for sale on craigslist and want to buy one before some else does. I know that they answer is here but I just don't have the time to look for it. PLEASE HELP ASAP

 

well.. theres a vin number that may be on the block somewhere gotta look maybe be behind upper timing cover. the ecu will say what its from and if its 4x4 or m/t or a/t

 

what do i look for doese it acually say auto or manual on it or are they certain codes

 

Should say 5vz 4x4 A/T, 5vz 4x4 M/T, 5vz 4x2 A/T, or 5vz 4x2 M/T

 

Hey Jorunner what do you have for a truck, dont buy just any motor and ecu. Do some research or ask a few guys on here what will work in your truck. I sent you an email as well explaining where I am at on my project and the problems I ran into because I didnt know better. At least I have all the right stuff now, but only problems is I am out of work and money so I will be selling my full kit and my truck. Not to happy about this.... good luck jorunner.. please reply with what you want to put that 3.4 into... later

 

Jo have the guy look at the back of the block. does it have a flywheel? etc.....

Also it will say on teh ecu...

 

its a 90 auto runner. This guy that has these motors only wants 1,200 (04) with harness, tranny and transfer case he also said i could have all the other little things that i would need... but I'm sure that he would take a G for all this. I'm not sure about the 03 but the 04 donor is a auto tacoma w/ 87k on it.
Hey millwright sorry to here about your job I just got laid off my self, I'm just lucky I got a hefty tax refund. If this could work on my runner I'll get it.. also depending on how much more i would have to spend on an adapter for the transfer case ? Deals like this are rare so I want to jump on this and if times get rough I now i could sell the motor for what I paid for. So please guys help me out with your inputs.

 

look out those newer 3.4's have a throttle by wire system wich aren't easy to adapt to your rig. Please read through the 3.4 swap section on yt. You will get any and all the info you'll need! thats what got me through my swap.

 

I have put both an '03 and an '04 in my truck (don't ask!) and neither motor was a throttle by wire. I'm not saying they are not out there, but I don't think all of them were.

$1200 sounds like a steal for all that. If everything is legit I would jump on that.

 

what exactly is a throttle by wire, how can I tell and If it is, what would I have to do to make this work is it worth the trouble and $$ .

And yes everything is legit the guy and his dad buy wrecked cars from auctions and part them out

I know that I could find the answer If I search for it but I just don't have that luxury at this time... balancing my time with the family and my job search

sorry I dont get on here that often but good news is I put my truck and motor on craigslist and had lots of people calling but I changed my mind and decided not sell and just work on it when my mill closes down in few months. give me something to do... Trust me you dont want to go thru what I did, just go buy a 3.4 that is close to your year of truck and what ever type trans you are running. Big tip the closer the years the easier the swap is gonna be as far as wiring goes. Take care and hope it works out for ya.
