Question 3.0 Body Harness To 3.4 ECM

Here it goes. I have been lurking the forums for a few years now and I finally worked up the courage to ask a question of my own. My 1992 4Runner 3VZ-E M/T 4x4 is getting swapped for a 1997 5VZ-FE M/T 4x4. I have read lots of threads on this so a confirmation would help a lot more than just a link to another thread. Before I go messing anything up, can someone tell me if I am on track?

Step 1. It is my understanding that the first three ECM plugs (E5'A', E6'B', and E7'C') do not need any modifications. (Not much of a 'Step 1')

Step 2. I will have to reppin the wires of the II3 and the II1 plugs from the '97 to the IH1 and IH2 plugs from the '92.

That seems straight forward enough. What I am not confident about is what to do about that last plug to the ECM (E8'D'). I can scavenge the T2'A' plug but what then? Do I splice the corresponding wires from the IH1 and IH2 plugs that I repinned in 'Step 2' to the plug that I scavenged?

If I do splice the wires can I use 'T Taps'? And should I splice from the body harness side or the engine harness side?

I'll do a dance for anyone who responds to this!

Correct.

My donor was a 97 A/T 4Runner that I converted to M/T, so I did have to re-pin those, you do not.

That's one way to do it.

I made a "conversion harness" using the dash side connectors for II1 and II3 from my donor's dash harness, the engine side connectors for IH1 and IH2 from my 3.0 engine harness, and also wired in the 4th ECU connector (E8 'D') since it is responsible for providing all the connections to/from the dash harness.

If you're referring to the crimp-on taps people use for stereos or trailer wiring, I would avoid them. Sure they'll probably work, but I'd rather strip a little bit of insulation and solder directly and know I have a good clean electrical connection. Then again, I made the harness so I was going to have to solder anyways and never really considered the use of crimp terminals.
