So for the ones that have done the swap from a 3.0v6 to the 3.4 v6 what was your cost on the project. I know cost vary with price of donor motor and so on. Just looking for a close ball park on cost. Also looking for 3.4v6 motor info and what bolts up to it. Tranny wise. What is the best year for the 3.4v6 and so on. If you have a link to a thread or website, that would be great. Thanks.

I havent looked there for a ball park price but it would be good to know.

 

My case, not finished yet but the only expensive thing I have left to buy is the headers...here's a breakdown:
3.4 with Tranny(to be sold, if you have a a 5spd from the 3.0 it's what's easiest to use)-$1,000
3.4 Standard kit from ORS(sorry, they're not making them anymore, but if someone starts that up it'd prolly be in the ballpark)-$1,085
Marlin HD 3.4 clutch kit-$299
Downey Headers(Ceramic coated)-$485

Right around $3,000 or a lil more, considering coolant, oil, new timing belt just because I dunno if it was ever changed.

I would say 2-3k depending on what you fab and how much you have to spend on tools and materials....

if your on a budget, might also wanna look into the gen II 3800 chevy/buick motor...

i believe that kiwipushrod installed one for under 2 grand... doubled his HP and gets almost 40mpg...

plus theres almost as much aftermarket support for it as the 3.4...

 

I actually did it for less then a $1000, but I took My time and sold the toyota stuff I pulled. car-parts.com is Your friend. So is craigslist.

yea, i have... i know taht you made your own motor mounts and ran into a couple complications with the exhaust...

i read that over on pirate... theres not as much about it on yotatech...
and i know that you mentioned something about maybe not being able to use the FWD motors because of the way that the intake is positioned...

I spent about $5k on the truck and the swap. That was my total out of pocket. I sold my 3.0 and trans and number of other little stupid things. I did all the fab myself except the actual exhaust install (I did make my own crossover) and I did all the wiring too. It took me about 3 weeks of working nights and weekends in an abandoned garage. I spent about 2 months studying ever forum on this site and doing Toyota research. I spent the first weekend of those three weeks picking up supplies and tools and setting up the shop.

 

What is the easiest, most affordable engine swap for the 2nd gen 4runner.

 

The correct answer would be the very same engine that is in there now..

from the very same vehicle with the same drivetrain

Simple pull broken or tired engine install used or fresh engine

The least amount of work would be the cheapest
