3.0 to 3.4 prerunner swap
So I finally found a deal on a 3.4 locally. I was just about ready to regear to 5.40 or 5.70 just to give the prerunner some power but I might be okay with 4.10s for now. I got the engine with the harness for $500 it looks clean and the guy said it had 68,000 on it and to what I can see this thing looks pretty damn fresh.
I will be putting this in a 1994 4x4(for now) pick up. We use this thing to run the desert and the dunes as soon as it gets more power ha ha. I only need to do as much wiring as needed to get the thing running and to use the tach. I plan to use all aftermarket oil, temp, volt, etc gauges. Im probably going to run a taurus e-fan or the mark 7(or 8?) fan; I have both. I was thinking of just running the exhaust down from the manifolds to a y-pipe under the trans.
I am going to be doing more and more research but I still do have some questions.
I bought this without the ecm or mass-air sensor so I am curious what years maf will work with what years? I was told this engine was a 1996 from a 4runner but I will need to make sure, but how would I do that? Can I get the numbers off the engine and call toyota and see what year or am I sorta on my own?
I was also curious what years and trans ecm will work with a 96? I can change some stuff around but I just dont wanna get an ecm that will not work with my sensors and such.
I was also curous what is the bare minimum wires and sensors that are needed to make this engine run in my prerunner?
And lastly what can I shed emissions wise to clean up my already cluttered engne bay? What is on there that the 3.4 for off-road can do without?
Thanks guys Im stoked

With 4.10 gears and 33s @ 4700 rpm in fifth the toy would be going something like 135mph. What do you guys think it would pull? I have a bet going right now with my buddies ha ha.

Thats what I thought. He wanted $1500 for the engine and trans so I asked how much for the engine and he said "$700". I looked at it and said its missing some spendy parts what will you take for it. He says " make me a good offer and its yours." I told him $500 and here it is.

I checked the bottom end and did a compression test and all looks good. I really do believe it has 68,000 miles. I had tmz run my harness numbers and he said it came from a 99-00 tacoma which is interesting. I am trying to get all the specifics on building a harness but tmz seems very good so far.

Use your 3.0 charcole canister, I can get the ECU for $150, and a new from toyota obd port for $40. You can also find obd ports on ebay pretty cheap.

I just ordered a computer from TMZ; should be here soon. I also ordered a bunch of wiring, connectors, and battery cable so I can move my battery to behind the cab. I will be using a jegs aluminum rad that is a 21"x19". I started to figure out my fan setup too. I removed the fan and motor from the shroud on my taurus e-fan and I just need to make a killa shroud. I will be removing the 3.0 this weekend and hopefully after a day or two of prep getting the 3,4 sitting in its new home. I am thinking I will try to make my stock motor mounts solid but Im not sure yet. I will also be using the stock manifolds with a Y pipe under the trans running to a flowmaster 40... No cat!(unless I dd it again ha ha)

Hang on to the coolant inlet housing from the 3.0. If your radiator outlet is in the same spot as the 3.0's, the 3.0 inlet housing and hose will fit much better than the 3.4 inlet and whatever hose will fit. You'll need to trim both ends of the 3.0 hose, but it will fit like stock, clear the PS lines, alternator & bracket, and you won't lose length on the hose.

I need to pass the ref here in commyfornia, so for now it will be using the charcol cannister, but im still searching for the 3.4 style one.

Here is a pic of the oil pan baffle from the 3.4 that I modded to fit the 3.0 pickup.

Here is just a random pic of the 3.4, 3.0, and the toyota. A funny side note is that My suspension is at full droop with no engine in the truck... Guess I need to loosen up those coils some ha ha.

I still might make my mounts solid so they are'nt on yet but good tip on the fuel line I will do that.
I also drilled my dipstick hole today and it was cake. Not bad at all.
