1990 3.0 to 1999 3.4 questions
Hello first off i am a newbie to this fourm, so thanks in advance for direction and advise. About a month ago i accuired a 1990 hilux with the 3.0 and manual tranny, the pickup has 250k on it and is need of a new engine. Well as im sure you all know the 3.0 worldis pretty slim and expensive. a friend of mine has a 99 4 runner that is wreked, but it has a 3.4 and a auto tranny which i believe i am going to purchase. i have spent quite a bit of time reading thru the threads in thisfourm and greatly appreciate the help and advise, i do have several questions that i was unable to locate the answers too.... first off how much of a pain in the ass would it be to keep the 3.4 auto setup and swap more harness, i unfortunatally dont have the funding to buy another engine harness and computer. i would almost prefer keep it auto for the sake of the wife. the next question is does anybody know the different dimmensions and attqchment points for the dash of these two vehicles, if possible and not too bad i would like to add that to the swap list. also anything else that might be usefull to me i would appreciate. does anybody have the wiring diagrams from toyota for these vehicles that you could hook me up with?

As far as I know it wouldn't be that bad as long as you strip out all the manual stuff from the hilux. TIS.com had the diagrams you seek and would tell you which looms of wires to keep and which to get rid of.
the next question is does anybody know the different dimmensions and attqchment points for the dash of these two vehicles, if possible and not too bad i would like to add that to the swap list.
I have seen a few guys on here that have swapped a 95.5-04 dash into the 89-95 trucks. Check around on here a little bit. I know I have seen it in the "Check out my interior" picture thread
also anything else that might be usefull to me i would appreciate. does anybody have the wiring diagrams from toyota for these vehicles that you could hook me up with?
Yes I have some diagrams that may be usefull to you, as for other information feel free to ask. Also check out TIS.com and pay the $15 for the 2 days and download every thing they have for both vehicles. I's amazing what you end up needing as random information for the swaps.

Keeping the auto from your buddies donor would not only be easy, but i think the easiest as well. There are only a few extra plugs that run to the transmission and some dash switches that would have to be wired and installed in a knockout somewhere. You might want to swap the shifter as well as it has the OD button on it. I swapped my 97 Runner's auto shifter into my 92 pickup.
The problem you will have is that the transfer case dumps to the other side(driver's). That leaves you buying the marlin adapter and sticking a gear driven case on there. Adapter is 350 and a gear driven case is about $100 used from a variety of places. I paid $50 for my 2.8 case, and $450 for my 23 spline case with Marlin 4.7 gears already installed just as a gauge.
I have the same setup you are considering. You can look through my progression if you'd like.
