Vacuum issue on 3VZE?

Here's the problem: When my engine's hot & I'm stopped at a stop light with my foot on the brake & clutch, my motor doesn't maintain constant RPM's. Almost like it's loping. Also, sometimes when I idle the RPM's are around 1800 until I goose it & it drops back down to around 1000. I've asked a few buddies & they say I've got a vacuum leak, but I don't even know where to begin to look for vac line leaks for this problem. Thanks in advance for the help! Fred

You can start by spraying carb cleaner on and around all of your vacuum lines with your engine running. When your engine starts to stumble/choke you've found the general area of the leak.

Most likely your idle speed is set too high. See this recent TLCA/Toyota Trails "Truck Tech" column for the full explanation:

Check the air intake hose between the air filter an the throttle body. Any cracks will let in additional air an throw off the computer.

I've had this prob on all mine at one time or another. Most likely your throttle cable is binding slightly.Increase coil spring pressure on the throttle shaft. In other words ,make sure the throttle blades close completely.Next time try jabbing the go pedal and let it snap closed (running, out of gear)and it should return to curb idle.
