Exclamation Speedo Whine and whoopie cushions

Over the winter, my speedo started whining badly...how easy is it to get to the tach cable to lube it? or is that even the right thing to do? has anyone else had this problem?

Another thing that is 'unique' to my 1995 V6 is there is a noise that can only be described as one similar to a 'blowout valve' I have found the spot where the noise is coming from every time i get off the accelerator, but have no idea what purpose the piece has...there appear to be 4 holes for bolts that are missing, but the piece is still in place and 'whoopie cushins' once off the gas...very strange

I't has been my experience that lube doesn't help. Just get a $15 replacement cable. Install isn't too bad, the hardest part it poping the gauge cluster out. It took me less than 2 hours to install mine.

Yep, it's probably the speedo cluster going bad not the cable. It's not too hard to replace. Gotta love ebay...

Before you decide to get a new cluster, test out the cable first. Disconnect the speedo cable from the cluster, grease it and then reattach it to the cluster. Drive around and listen. If there's no more noise, it's the cable. If there is still noise, it's probably the cluster. I regreased my cable on 3 separate occassions because the noise came back after about a week after each greasing. I finally gave in and replaced the cable, which was about $100 (Canadian) for the part. It's been 3 weeks now, and NO more NOISE!!
