OK guys, the condition of the paint on my new 3rd gen needs some serious work.

I am in the process of researching and I am getting ready to order a Corey Cable and a buncha stuff from Griots. I've got everything lined out except...I really have no way of washing/polishing/waxing in the shade, is this going to be a problem? I hope not or I'm going to have to find somebody I know with shade so I can go over there and wax my rig there.

is the clear oxidized? i have always buffed and rubbed cars out of direct sun light. if you can get out of the sun do 1 square foot at a time dont let the compond sit on the paint for to long or it will burn

 

If you have to work in the sun, you should use the Poorboys line of products. That's the only line I have found that is sun friendly http://www.poorboysworld.com/index.html

find a parking garage or go tthe mall and park under some trees. Go to a local gas station on a sunday and ask if you can use their bay just to wax for like $10-20.

Find a cute umbrella girl.

 

Do the work early in the morning before the sun has a chance to heat up the paint. If necessary, wash it Saturday morning, detail it Sunday morning. I've found this to work just fine.

Of course, that was a few years ago... back when I actually cared about what my truck looked like.

 

Yeah...I park my car in the garage overnight so I could wake up pretty early, go out and do it then and if it gets too hot just park it back in the garage and carry on later that night or the next morning. Think that would work?

That should work fine... that's basically what I do now. If you can find an overcast morning, you'll have more time to work.

 

Yeah thats what I was going to say too...I could just keep an eye out for a clear morning and go for it.

OK cool...now I feel more comfortable spending the serious dough on all the supplies needed to do a good detail.

Actually, an overcast morning would be better. With all the cloud cover, it will take longer for the paint to heatup, thus giving you more time to work.

 

It must just not be my day...I meant for an overcast morning, I REALLY need more sleep!

Or you could just do it in the garage. Move the other car out and park slanted for more room.

Yeah, I could but I don't really wanna be using the hose in the garage. I haven't finished reading the book yet so I'm not sure if that is involved but that would be my only concern.
