power steering fluid

can i just drain it out and put amsoil atf? Says so on the power steering cap. I always thought power steering fluid was its only type of fluid but since i saw it say use atf than it just threw me off.

Hey!

I always use Dextron III automatic tranny fluid in my PS pump. Not sure if the amsoil stuff would be ok, but I don't see why not.

Have fun all.

it will be the hose with just a spring clamp on it, the pressure hose will be crimped at the end, and have a banjo bolt holding it to the reservoir

OK I know this is probably a stupid question, but what exactly does the power steering fluid do for my truck? And what's going to happen if I don't change it.

THIS should help, if you don't change it your seals in the rack and pump may start leaking prematurely, and will cause excessive wear on the pump
