Power Antenna Mast Issues

I have an 88 4Runner with a power antenna. I've searched the posts and it seemed easy enough to replace the mast (the motor is fine).

All I had to do was power the antenna up until it came out, then feed the new one in and power down the antenna allowing the motor to feed in the new mast, making sure the teeth were facing the same way.

Well I took the nut off the top and powered the antenna up, the white cable started coming up and then it stopped. No matter how hard I yanked on it it refused to come out. Furthermore there were no teeth on the cable either.

I took the motor out and disassembled it while the antenna was fully out, inside I found no remnents of teeth nor anywhere where the antenna cable was attached.

So my question is: How do I get this old mast out of there and a new one in?

Here are some pics of what the cable looks like:

The nut is back on the stud in the picture, this is after I put it back the motor and antenna back in to keep rain out. But I assure you even with that nut off it would not come out

Thanks for any suggestions.
Jay

Sounds like you've got an aftermarket powered antennae as all of the 'yota antennaes I've ever seen have teeth, so I'd try looking around on the motor housing for a manufaturer's name.
Hope this helps.

This is what I would try (*DISCLAIMER* THIS IS A SUGGESTION - IT MIGHT CAUSE YOUR MOTOR TO BURN OUT):

1) Turn the ACC on so the mast is as far out as it will go.
2) Turn the ACC off and have someone (or yourself) hold the mast so as the motor retracts, the mast doesn't.
3) Turn the ACC on again and gently pull the mast upwards.

I'm thinking it just might be stuck (maybe it got twisted) and needs a little "help" to get out.

I love having Sirius radio! I disconnected the power antenna relay and don't have to worry about a thing now!

Its the factyory antenna...i checked while it was out...at least the motor is factory...don't know about the mast itself...

I"ll try and "yank" it out again this afternoon.

but man did I pull on that SOB last week, and nothing.

O.K., with a factory motor one would think that the mast would be factory, too, but i do not know.
Perhaps try going with what Del suggests & give it a good tug, while it is extending, & maybe you can encourage it to come on out as it is coming out.

I may just replace it with a manual antenna. Even a replacement mast is something like $30 bucks for the power.

I can get a manual replacement for $9

Just like having everything original stock as much as possilbe.

Thanks.
