Pollution device removal

I read the tech writeup on the 22RE and I realize that they must have removed pollution devices. Im new to toyotas and new to any engine made after 1985. I want to do the same mods(K&N, LC header, but not cam) However, I dont know the proper procedures for removal of the pollution devices. Will I need a new/upgraded ECU? If theres a website or book or something, I would be more than happy to know. I definitly need a new exhaust system including cat right away, for this one is shot, clogged and leaking bad. Thankyou

To my knowledge, there are no proper ways to remove the pollution devices since IT IS ILLEGAL. Do it right, the environment and everyone who cares about it will thank you.

Any exhaust shop can weld an O2 sensor bung onto the header collector or in the exhaust pipe. Early pollution-controlled cars made less power but that isn't necesarily true anymore. Point is it isn't a good idea not to run the emissions stuff.
