Looking for better gas mileage
I posted this question in the other board but nobody has answered:
Can anybody tell me ways to improve my gas mileage on my bone stock 3.4L 4Runner?
Thx,
Dave

For starters replace the stock muffler with a Dynomax or Magnaflow muffler.
Do a search on either one, this has been a hot topic but those are the top 2 choices for an inexpensive exhaust upgrade.
Good for 1-2 MPG !!

You can try:
-lightening the load in your Runner (any way you can)
-increase tire pressure
-clean or replace your air filter
-change the spark plugs
-try a fuel injector cleaner additive
-believe it or not, synthetics in your engine & diffs may improve mileage as well
-clean your MAF sensor
-replace oxygen sensor(s)
I'm sure there's more you can do, but here are some things to get you started.

Higher tire pressures
A small increase in timing (although I don't think you can do that with a 3.4)
keep the injectors clean
keep it in tune
and most importantly
take it easy while accelerating

I put high tire preasure in mine... 38 in the front and 40 in the back.. seems to be smoother and better gas milage.
also.. keep the ECT button off... then your shift points will stay lower and use less gas.
