Holy Cow..$600 for 60K service...?!
Jeez...I just got off the phone with my local toyota dealer and they said it would cost $600 for my 60K mi service! Does that sound right to anyone...? It just seems a little expensive.

That's a rip
My 30K (98 Limited 4x4 Tacoma) was $300 at Superstition Springs Toyota, and that included a rental car. They are trying to screw with you.

I guess I better try calling a few other toyo dealers...I can live with $400 but man $600 does seem a little high. I knew I should have taken auto mechanics in school...

JBM,
I know, I still owe you a quote!
But to answer your question, check out and download the pdf file i created on service intervals. This is based on the dealership ad that i received. Also has pricing info for your comparison.

I think it sounds too high.

I paid 245 for my 60k just a few weeks ago with a 4th gen as a rental for the whole day!!
You're definitley gettin raped....I'd say either talk to them, or look around.

Do most of it yourself! Engine oil change, differential oil change (front & rear), transfer case oil change, engine coolant change. Easy day in the driveway.

Bob - thanks alot...I'll take this with me to the dealer. They had said my price of $600 included the timing belt...would that bring the cost up that much...?

Well I didn't know if it made any difference...I just figured the 60K service interval included it...I'm not a mechanic so I don't know any better...guess I have alot to learn.

Well dont worry, none of us were born with knowledge about cars. It comes from hands on experience, reading, and asking questions. You are on the right track.

JBM:
On the same sevice ad that I pulled the data from to make the sheet, my dealership's timing belt special is:
4 cyl = $119.95 + tax
6 cyl = $169.95 + tax
8 cyl = $269.95 + tax
Given the prices you quoted, I'd definitely shop around or as Citykid said, try to do some of that stuff on your own and have the dealer do stuff that's above your capability to do (i.e. tranny flush, timing belt, etc)

My local dealership doesn't do anything special at the higher mileages. The major tune-ups are at 30K intervals and they check a whole laundry list of items. All for about $270, I don't remember the exact cost.

Looking back in my service records it cost $230 for my 3.0 back in 98 for the 60K timing belt.

Well after talking to my dealer on the phone for a little while, I explained that I don't need everything on the list for the 60K service interval and I talked them down to $269. That's minus the wheel rotate and balance, transmission flush (wich I just had done 1K miles ago), brakes (which I also just had done) and minus the timing chain replacement (only because my owners guide says it doesn't need to be replaced until 90K).
Thanks for all the inputs it really helped me out. Now I have to look into doing the deckplate mod and start saving for the S/C.

Good job talking them down. So you are not getting the 60K service done?

I'm getting the 60K service just minus a few things I just had done recently...but they also said that the 2.7L has a timing chain not a timing belt.

Anyway, for $269 what are they going to do?
