okay, I did a search and found some conflicting info. what should a 94 4runner with a v6 and auto get for gas mileage. I only get about 15 MPG. admittedly the driving is about 60% in town but i have just done a tune up, run my tires at 38 psi, have headers and free flowing exhaust, and a kn air filter. Is there anything else i can do or is 15 as good as i can expect. thanks ahead of time and sorry if i missed a post that answers this.

 

My '91 is averaging 15 mpg as well, mixed highway/city driving.

 

hmm...are you the same goatboy that just outbid me over on ebay for the hubs? oh yeah..i get about the same milage also. make sure that you are geared right. i have 4.10 gears and running 31's so its 10% off.

 

Yup, I get that or worse probably cuz my dad drives somewhat aggressivly.

Everytime I unlease the fury that is the 3.0 V6, I watch the gas guage drop for entertainment!

Honestly, I haven't checked it in a long time. I do feel like I'm driving from gas station to gas station though.

 

That's about 40% the reason why I sold it, I was getting average 12 MPG at best around in the city and it was no power house, I would refill every THREE days, can you believe that? Now I get 14 MPG with the Tundra but can you believe I go almost two weeks before I need to fill up? No complaint on my end...just wish prices of gas would go down a bit.

I hear you there. I usually get about 12 around town and 16 on the highway. I'm usually limited to about 200 miles on a tank. I am running 31's on the stock diff, so I haven't accounted for the offset.

Its a good thing I don't drive too much. My wallet would be empty.

How much is gas in your town for you guys?

Last week in az, avg was around $2.00-2.05. Up in Sedona we found a chevron that was $1.89. This is for unleaded.

 

I think that i saw on the news last night that the average gas price for the Oklahoma City area was $1.52.

 

I just averaged 18.4 mostly city miles. If you realize the 3.slo isn't made for quick get a ways you can get much better fuel mileage out of it.

 

I have a 96 with the 3.4 and I am not sure that I get anywhere near 18mpg city or 21 to the hwy. Maybe I need a tune up. 99.9% of my driving is hwy and I set my trip, I seem to get around 270 miles before having to fill back up.

City i get about 9, highway i get about 14 or 15. of course with bigger tires it's off so i get about 10.5 city and 16 highway

 

Not sure about my tire pressure, I'll have to check. I am running stock 265/70/16. I'll take your advice and check some senors and filters. With 104,000 it is probably due.

 

You guys are going to think I'm full of it, but I get about 18-20mpg on my '95 4Runner 3.0 v6 w/ 107k miles. I ride on 31's and have a K&N air filter, everything else is stock. I do have manual transmission, not that it makes THAT much of a difference. I can say that the fuel economy improved when I finally had the #5 spark plug replaced professionally. I've always replaced all the others myself except that one, which is impossible to access. Other than that, I can't explain my (relatively) good gas mileage.

The 3.0s are the gas guzzling demon of the century.

Sure some get pretty decent mileage with theirs, but then they are probably running the correct size tire for the factory gearing, and everything else on the rig is stock.

Start adding oversize tires, an aftermarket bumper, roof racks with lights hanging off of them, and the rig soon becomes very un-aerodynamic, thus increasing the drag coefficient, making for a less slippery vehicle to slither through the slip stream.

I average about 10 to 11 in town, and the best I can muster right now with combined city/freeway is about 14 to 15 MPG.

I use to get about 18 when I first got the rig, but that was in stock form with 235 size snow tires.

 

hey can't help you much with a mpg report on an auto slush box...I've got a 5spd and have gone from 14.9 mpg average to 17.5 mpg average with a K&N fipk style mod and a timing adj. (adv.)...if i use 4wd a lot it goes down to @15-16 mpg on average...of course if i put the boots to her it gets worse back to the same old same old...as I said I don't know much about autos (I've never owned one nor will I )but maybe try advancing the timing all the way till it pings then back off a quarter turn...if your not running a K&N cone filter change to that...oh! and don't drive like a meat head: up here in the great white north gas is averaging @73.9 cent a litre wihch tranlates to about C$2.96 a gallon or about US$2.07 a gallon figuring on a .70 C$ and YES i wish it cost less to fill up...Aviator:tomcat: :bounce2:
