I am curious on to what you guys use for tools in your garage..specifically to the brand of jacks (jack stands), air compressor, power drills etc. I am planning to get myself a 'set' for Christmas...just wanted your input. The Griot's Garage catalog is making me drool :eek:

 

Duke, I am a firm believer in Craftsman hand tools.
You can't beat the guarantee on them.

Most of my hand tools are all from them.
Power tools I also like Sears.

My 2 jack stands I own were my dad's from over 20 years ago, and they are still holding up, (pun )

The floor jack I use I don't even remember the brand, but I got it at K-Mart back around '90 when I did all my own work on my '90 truck I use to have.
Still use the jack on the 4Runner whenever I need to lift it.

As for an air-comp, Sears carries their brand as well as Campbell Hausefield I believe.
Porter Cable also makes compressors and can be found at Costco.

My impact wrench I have is the Sears heavy duty 1/2" one.
It's beefy, and has lots of torque.

The Griot's tools are very nice, but also very expensive.
I'll stick with the Sear's brand for hand tools.
Do get your self a metric set of their ratchet wrenches.
Here is the set you want.

Open end wrench on one end, ratchet wrench on the other end.
Great tools, as I use them often on the rig.

 

Same here, just about all my stuff is craftsman. Cant beat the fact that you can walk into any Sears store and take them up on their lifetime replacement warranty on the spot, no questions asked.

 

My wife just called me and said that there is a 'Craftsman' Ad that just came in the mail....I might have to take a drive to Sears later or tomorrow (maybe there will be a 'Thanksgiving' deal on some tools )..an early Christmas gift. I am leaning on the Craftsman because of their lifetime warranty on tools.
The ad mentions a deal for $89 for a 3-ton jack, jack stands, work chair and jumper cables...hmmm

 

There is not a thing wrong with Craftsman tools. Great bang for the buck. But Snap-on are damn nice.

Most of my tools are los Craftsman. I got an awesome jack there a few months ago. I think it has 18" of lift (?), but the really neat thing about it is, with no weight on the jack, it raises to it highest extension with only two pumps of the handle. So, when you slide it under something, most of the time the jack makes contact within a half pump or so, then it starts lifting. It really saves a lot of time when you don't have to actuate the handle 10 times before you even make contact.

For my power tools I stick to Dewalt, Porter-Cable, Milwaukee, or Bosch. Bosch are great tools, but a little pricey.

 

I've always been a craftsman tool guy, just can't beat the guarantee.
