emergency brake repair on my '98 4runner
#1
Any tips/thoughts/ideas to give to a "shade tree" on r/r emegency brake?
Thinking about doing the "cupholder" mod at the same time.
The E-brake just WON'T pull up or engauge -can't be THAT hard - it's just a cable that goes to the rear drums, right?
thanks in advance!

amorphous,
there are two opposing nuts that thread themselves on the threaded end of the brake cable. Tighten them lower and the less you'll need to pull the e-brake up. My guess is that over time, they moved themsleves upwards.
Have you bought all the parts for the cupholder mod? If you have any questions, please feel free to email me and I'll be more than happy to help. You'll be the first person to my knowledge to have attempted my mod. i'm going to help dbui27 within the month to do his (i'm in CA, sorry!).
the most difficult part is aligning that silver bracket in the back.
also, be careful when repositioning the ebrake. make sure you work the e-brake up and down to make sure that the e-brake cable stay does not hit the e-brake tub. align it just so and mark your pilot hole.
as i said, email me if you have questions and read the instructions thoroughly!

DONE!
Finally got the part (cheap!- thanks to Tod at Toyota parts of Richardson!) and did it up this weekend.
Not too hard of a job.
Cable was just FROZEN in the housing.
USE your e-brake kids, keep those back brakes in adjustment!!

hey Bob -nope, no cupholder mod. I did think agout it, but it was more involved than I wanted to get right now.
What I did do was the Deckplate Mod after I was done w/ the e-brake ---->wow!
