Code 22?

Well my 92 4Runner has been throwing a CEL intermittantly for the past few weeks, and I just now got around to checking it.

Unless I'm reading it wrong, I think it's Code 22, which according to the chart is an Engine Temperature/Coolant Sensor. My radiator seems fine, and I have never had problems with temperature at all.

Any suggestions of what to replace? Where would this sensor be? My guess is that it's just gone bad, because I have no indication that I'm running too hot.

Im pretty sure that sensor is located on the back of the motor near the firewall it's part of that metal housing with like 4 or more sensors coming out of it. If youre throwing codes intermittently it could be a loose/ corroded wire. Check those first but be careful because they get brittle and are thin so they break easily. I just broke 2 of mine replacing my motor so now Im trying to get that straightened out, Im also throwing the same code by the way on a '90 3.0.

Hey thanks for the info. Sorry for the delayed response; I've been out of town.

Can you be more specific as to where to find it? Also, does anyone know anything about the importance/operation of this sensor?
