cleaning the engine

hey i want to clean my engine with that CD-2 stuff, but since i know jack squat about engines i need to know exactly which parts, and where, and how, i need to cover. any other tips would be appreciated too.

here's a picture of my engine, maybe someone could draw dummy arrows and circles in assisting me.

You know I need to do the same to my Tundra. When I cleaned my mom's Camry a few months back, all I did was cover the distributor, but pretty much I avoided any direct shots or water around the alternator.

Corey, you'da man for this, for my Tundra and his 4Runner, we have distrubtless ignitions so we probably would want to avoid the individual coils, and probably only cover up the alternator, right Corey?

I just did this to mine today. There must've been 10 lbs of sand on top of everything from my beach trip this past week. I used a long handled garden shower sprayer that drenches areas with low pressure water with the engine off. Worked great, fired right up, made a squealing sound for about a second and that was it. I let it idle, hood closed, for five minutes then shutdown and residual engine heat dried everything without staining.

To be honest with you, in all my years of washing engines I have never covered anything up.

The only thing I use is Gunk Engine Foamy Brite, and it does a decent job.

I have to do mine most of the time after a run upto the mountains if the roads are dusty and not wet after a rain.

I never spray a warm motor, I do it stone cold.
I let the Gunk sit for about 5 minutes, rinse & repeat.

Then I rinse it with the garden hose, I do it with a light stream and not hard.
And yes I do spray the alternator and the distributor also to get the Gunk cleaner off.

As stated, I never cover anything, but do this at your own risk.
If you feel safer to cover it, you can use foil or Saran Wrap and cover the parts up well.

After rinsing the engine, remove the covers if you used them, then start your engine and let it run fro about 10 minutes to heat up and evaporate the cleaner.

My interior always smells like Gunk for a few days, but the smell dissipates after a bit.

A dirty picture

15 minutes later with Gunk Foamy Brite

Notice the winches big red wires came pretty clean too.

Cover up your cruise control. After I washed mine, my cruise went out for a week or two until it dried.

washing the engine

For years i have washed the engines of my vehicals with the preasure washer just like the rest of the trucks. Never had a problem from doing it yet. My Tacoma engine gets full of dirt and mud when i go off road so when i stop to wash it i just pop the hood and soap it down and spray it off. My engine looks like the day i bought it. Mike
