CEL Issue
Just had the head gasket done (Thanks, Toyota!!). No long block (yet...)
Driving home I threw a CEL. Called the service tech, he says "Bring 'er back". No problem. So, I check the code when I get home...5-2...Knock Sensor. Service tech says they replaced the harness. The funny thing is, after I checked the code, I re-started the engine, let it idle for about 15 minutes and the CEL is GONE, and I didn't do anything to clear it. Anyone have any input as to why it would just disappear
Thanks,
bp

The code will still be stored in the computer, but the CEL will not come on until the computer detects the problem again. Most other codes will come back immediately upon restart, but Code 52 will only return after a short drive, usually less than 100 yards - oops, meters in Canada.

Hey Blair,
Glad to hear you got the truck back, I finally solved my vibration issues. As per your new problem. Did the CEL throw the code at before you took it into to have it rebuilt? Just curious because perhaps they forgot to clear it and it took some time to pick up on the new sensor harness. Yeah I know...long shot...but you never know.

OK, it's back at the Dealership (Whitby Toyota). Code DID come back...knock sensor. The tech may not have seated it properly. Also losing coolant from the upper plenum area under the timing belt cover. AND pissing coolant out the tailpipe this morning. There just MAY be a long block in this yet!
Dealer has been good, so far. Turns out the tech has some property out my way Cordova Lake) that I just happen to have taken some aerial shots of on Sunday night. Gave him a disc of 30 shots...he's real happy with that, so I'm expecting some Toyota lovin' today!

UPDATE: Turns out the CEL was caused by a little bit of corrosion on one of the knock sensor terminals. Poor tech had to tear it all down again, just to buff it out. The coolant leak up fromt was due to a lack of sealant. All seems well now and I can once again maintain 75 mph going uphill. No knocks, pings or whistles, etc...
Had a great chat with the tech about my engine, which was rebuilt before I got it, unbeknownst to me. All the internals look great, valves are good, timing belt is new. I'm looking forward to another 100K miles of Toyota's best!
Much better Dealer experience this time around. They didn't try to up-sell me, gave me honest answers and had even arranged for a rental, which I did not require. If I ever feel the need to pay a $72.00 /hr shop rate, I'd use them again. While I didn't get the long block this time, I DID get good service!

Awesome! Good to hear its running good again Blair. Now, we just have to get out some wheeling trips.
