vortec v6 or sbc v8 1st gen 4runner
I have a question for you guys that have already done a engine swap. My trusty 22re is gettin old and I have done about everything else to my runner I would like to do. I am thinking about a v6 or a 350 sbc swap . I would like to keep it very simple if I can . My 5speed stock trans and a 350 very toned down carbed and all stock seems to be what I would like. But It seems that anyone who has done one is mostly a mall cruiser or a dune guy. then there is the vortec 4.3 also a good choice but alot more electronics and stuff I dont really want. I do occasionally go to silverlake sand dunes but mostly I go offroad (mud) or rocks. I have pretty much all the goodies done (sas, dual ultimate cases, twinstick, spool rear, locker front longfields,fullcage,ect....most people think the v8 would be harmfull to the driveline but a stock 350 carbed is about the same hp. and a little more torque than the v6 4.3 .and honestly the extra weight up front would be nice maybe it would sit level then Please give me your honest opinion if youve done either swap I only want to do this once.

The only thing with the 4.3 is all the computers and all the reflashing for the ecm It seems like a pain . I think the driveline should be able to hold up to a moderate v8 if it can hold up to a v6 from a taco they seem pretty powerful to me .and that is a popular swap. again too much stuff to deal within modules . I work on caes and trucks all day and I hate dealing with the computers and the picky crap that comes with them . especially bwith a transplant. Anyone have good luck with a mild v8 and like it?

I have 5.29 gears in it .and yea I'm not to keen on the rims either but they were cheap and I'm eventually going to put some beadlocks on but for now they will do. I have thought of the cam, header, intake ect route but you spend alot of money on very little power. I would like as much power as i can get without major reliability issues. The more I look into v8 swaps the more I think that is not the way to go. You would think with all the kits sold out there you would see more people with them in these trucks. I went to silverlake dunes this summer and the 22re was a complete power epic fail . I do very well in all other terrain but sand and gravel hillclimbs like at the badlands . It's a bit scary to almost make a crazy climb and have to back down because of lack of torque at the end . If I were only in rocks my 22re would be fine with some mild mods .

I think you can get a 4 barrel carb intake for the vortec v6 ,and there are a few years of dist that is none computerized. There is a web site that told what year parts it would take to convert it to a carb, but I can't think of what it was called.

hey dirtyrunner89 ! Welcome to yotatech! I have a 4xinnovations cage kit in my runner. It is on their site I got mine in dom tubing for a little more . They make great products and are nice to deal with . The kit comes cut and bent you have to assemble it and tack it together then take it out and have it welded by someone who can weld really well I had someone do that for me . Good luck with your 4runner .

Thanks I'll check out their site, I'm also trying to figure out a good resource for axle parts, any good sites for parts and info? I'm going to check the classified section on here to try and find a solid front
