swap for gm engine question

83 toyota pickup. is this all I need to do a swap?

4.6 gm v6
trans. and related parts
axles
computer
wiering harness



could I take those from a gm truck and mount it all on a 83 toyota?

what I am trying to do it turn it into an auto with the gm v6 and also swap axles so its auto locking hubs.


is it possible????????????????

Its a 4.3L engine not 4.6


Sounds easy, but its a lot more work than that.


You'll also need to buy or fab motor mounts, trans/transfer crossmember, transfer case from GM or an adapter for your Toy case, exhaust, drive shaft work, new radiator, fuel pump, new fuel lines,

Anything is possible with enough time and effort. Or enough money to pay someone else to do all the work.

even making it an automatic and making it have auto locking hubs? those are my main conserns (I like auto for off road ) and I ment the gm 4.3, or do they make a 4.6?

anyway, those are my main conserns, cuzz if its an manual to start with and then I turn it into an auto, how would I shift it from park? if you dont know thats ok, aslong as its possible to go from manual to auto.

there is a 4.6 V8 out there (but I think its a Ford)

I'd find a 4.3 Carborated Motor if state laws allow you to do so. They run pretty good with minor Cam changes and a 2bbl Holley. (less electronics to deal with, and upgrading to TBI, EFI, or the Vortec is fairly straght foreward if you decide you want too later)

TH700R4, or TH350/400 automatics work well with the 4.3. As for Shifting just use a B&M floor shifter from AZ, AA, Jegs, ect. Easy install.

sweet! what vehicle would I find the shifter in and the trans. and the engine? also what axle would I use to make it auto locking hubs?

Youve got alot to learn before you can do this swap! Time to start researching information cause otherwise youll dig yourself into a hole you cant climb out of

oh yeah I understand its no easy thing. hehe. but I almost get chills just thinking about doing it all.

here is what I am looking at getting, only at a much cheaper price if I can talk the guy down. just about every thing leaks, but its street legal and his DD, so it does run.
what do yall think the price should be?

I agree. If you dont know the difference between the workings of an auto and manual trans, you shouldnt be doing an engine swap.

ANd the auto hub deal is probably going to be way more trouble than its worth. Maybe use a wagoneer vacuum actuated axle?

Mid-80's S-10 and S-10 Blazer's are where you'll find the Carb 4.3 mated with a Th350 or (maybe) TH700R4. Best to look for the 700R4 in a K1500 more common there and the T-case for a Mid to late 80's isnt the worst.
The Shifter will almost have to come from a Parts store or Catalog (not saying it cant be done but for $100 its not worth the hassle trying to find a good GM floor shifter).

Auto lock hubs are too much trouble to deal with my S-10's had them and they all got converted to "cable pull locking" style.

But I'd leave the Truck as is and fix the leaks. Going 4.3 is going to be a massive headache with a non-stock vehicle

I know how they work, I was only wondering if its possible to use in auto on a manual truck, but I may end up likeing manual off road anyway.



what I dont know is how axles work. what I mean by auto locking hubs, is swaping axles out so that I dont have to get out and twist the hubbs. would I accomplish this by cable, or vacume? how does it work?
