90 to 90 Manual to Auto 3.0L swap

Alright help me out if this has been covered. I have been searching this site since I bought my new 1990 SR5 4runner a few weeks back and looking to swap out to a 3.4L due to a bad motor.

I ended up buying a 1990 4runner with the same engine, but it's a manual and the one I want to swap into is an automatic.

I was just wondering if there were any problems with going from a man. to auto.

Like I said I was going to do the 3.4 swap, but I got a killer deal on this new "old" 4runner, and it has brand new 31" cooper tires, and aluminum wheels for $800 for the entire truck. That plus it has some extra part I can swap out also.

So when I'm done, I'll have my 1990 4 runner with a decent engine, decent body, and sweet wheels and tires for about $800 total!

anyways, any help on the man to auto swap would help me out a bunch. Thanks and looking forward to getting help with all my toyota problems! (shouldn't be too many though)

Yeah, but the crappy auto transmission.

Do a complete swap, take the auto out with the bad transmission, throw the new transmission in, with wiring harness and CPU.
Thats your best bet, you get gobs more power from it.

You might be overgeared, i know that my 94 came with 4.88s stock with its auto, but i believe they started that in 92.... Check your gearing, as you might want to swap 3rds if you dont want to be overgeared running an manual.

If you cant drive a stick.... shame on you.

thanks for the reply, but it's a daily driver and maybe a couple times a year off-road vehicle. BUT... my first car was a man, and I learned to drive on a manual when I was 12 so that's no worry. I just want the different engine without swapping tranny's.
